Asik had to either be traded or let go at the end of the season. He absolutely would not resign here. We got a decent pick for him.

I think you missed the point. Royce White and Lin were comparable in that they were essentially negative assets that were a challenge to move.

All Lin fans miss the point . they think everything is a knock on Jeremy Lin, they go in to insecure mode and act defensively.

The reading comprehension of Clutchfans will be back to normal now since most of Lin's fans are leaving.

This isn't about being a Lin fan, this is about being a Rockets fan who wants to know why we cut a young player and bring him back in a year for 8 million plus (and let Dragic go for the same amount) and then give away 2 picks to get rid of him all within a 3 year span. Where the hell is our scouting? The Rockets seem to be giving away decent picks to cover their management's continual mistakes and the damage is beginning to add up. It feels like this team is moving backwards, when with Howard and Harden we should be contending for a championship.

Do you seriously not get it? We cut him the first time because we were loaded at the pg spot. Flynn was a better contract so we kept him over Lin. Later on, we were rebuilding after blowing up the team and signed with the infamous contract after he had Linsanity. This is commonly thought of as a Les move (the same one who forbade DM to tank) in order to at least put butts in seats. We moved him with the costs of 2 picks this year for 2 reasons; no one wants Lin at his current price and we rather keep cap space then retain an inconsistent player on his way out. It is HARD to contend and had Bosh/Melo/Lowry truly valued WINNING then we would have been contenders.

I think, the offseason comes out like this:
Plan: Get a 3rd star (there are a lot in the FA to begin with, Carmelo, LBJ, Bosh). With Howard and Harden we are contenders, we can lure them in. Cap Space is all about moving Asik and Lin. IF, no Big Star lands, keep the Team and lean on experience and chemistry to do better next year. Then 2015, FA moves again.

    What Happened:
1.) Pitch to Carmelo, LBJ. Que up Asik/Lin Cap clearing moves.
2.) Do Parsons a solid by not taking the Option since getting him back has high probability since we can match. Going over cap with 3 Superstars and Parsons, should be something to ride the next 2-4yrs.
    3.) Missed on Carmelo.
4.) LBJ choose Cavs - which impacts the "Bosh" choice and it looks good.
5.) Offer Bosh the Max. Thinking Bosh wants a ring and Houston is ready. Come on, Max + Legit contention with Howard and Harden, likelihood of him coming to Houston is high.
6.) Now, timing is an enemy. Lin option is running out fast since other teams are making moves. Pull the trigger. (still in mind, Bosh is coming). We should be OK - even if releasing future picks.
7.) Sucker Punch - Heat Offered Max to Bosh. Bosh choose Miami.
    8.) Everything Change !!!!
9.) Parsons: He's a great Swiss Army type of Player, Glue Guy - is he worth the max? If we sign Parsons to max now - it will disable future flex. Totally different if Bosh is in, wherein we have the core to ride.
10.) Don't match Parsons and work on the bench. Keep Flex for future.
11.) Should we renege on Lin deal (to keep the picks offered)? Nah, relationship and integrity with other team's FO for continue with deals is also important in the future.
12.) Ending is the Team Make-up for 2014/2015 season.
13.) There are still moves that can be made till season starts. Continue working on the Phones.

Cannan & Johnson are clearly not ready for major NBA minutes at the backup point guard position. While each of them have had their moments in the summer league, neither are even close to being reliable NBA backups. You have to have blinders on not to see their flaws during the summer games (lack of speed, experience, size being a few). It amazes me that most people here think that both of them would be better backups than Lin or Brooks were. We are in serious trouble if we don't get a quality PG. A PG is known as the extension of the head coach out on the floor for the other players....with our HC and his subpar staff, we are in big trouble if we don't acquire a veteran PG such as Rondo. Ish Smith is not the answer and once again due to this horrific trade we are likely stuck with him. Not seeing why Phoenix or Boston would be interested in anything we have. Reality check (contrary to the so-called insiders on this board)...teams are not contacting the Rockets to trade their star point guards for TJones or DMo. 2 first round picks to trade likely would have generated discussions, but for now we appear to be stuck with the McHale/Ish Smith backup combo.

Make fun of me if you must, but enjoy watching Joey Dorsey and Ish Smith start games when inevitable injuries occur during the season. Depth is important in the NBA and we have absolutely none and nobody seems to be upset about it.

All these PGs were given up so we could make a big three. We gave up Lowry to get Harden and we knew next offseason was supposed to have had plenty of big names in it so we didn't want Dragic's 4th year. We needed cap room to get a second great player. Then Dwight comes along in FA and we try for our big 3 now. So we trade Lin so we could have a big three. Fantastic.

Everyone tells us no. Not fantastic.

I think most of us like Harden better than Lowry so good going on that. Having Bosh on this team is better than Dragic and Lin so... what is the problem?

We dumped our mediocre girlfriends for a shot at the hot one we really really wanted. Is that really that hard to comprehend? Hot girls have lots of suiters. Surprised that the hot girl picked some other dude? I'm not. It'll be fine, we still have our big pieces to pull out and show that next hot girl. It's all good. Look for Dwight's post game to flourish. Look for Harden to play defense. Those two things happen and we are still contenders.

I am happy for Lin. He just didn't fit on the Rockets as configured during his tenure here for whatever reasons. It is impossible to know what he went through behind the scenes, but his play was very erratic. Flashes of Linsanity were punctuated with head scratching miscues. Did he lack confidence? Was he asked to do things that didn't fit his skill set? Was his confidence destroyed by McHale? Who knows? Nevertheless he has a chance at a fresh start. If he doesn't take full advantage of this one, he may fade out of the league.

If only there were 3 months until the start of the season, with trades and various exceptions still available. Oh, wait....

That makes sense KlutchQT, but the point of this thread is to say that we are basically out of moves that can be made (for the near future) because we lost all of our assets at the gambling table. Credit Morey for going all in and taking risks, but as a result we now appear to no longer be a viable trading partner for starting level players. Nobody is knocking on our door for Dorsey, Smith, DMo, Adrien, etc. Rondo, Dragic, Rubio, and Bledsoe will not be coming for those assets, so it is another year of watching McHale coach a good, but not great team.

    Morey's offseason plan:

Plan A: Sign a big name FA, dump Lin and Asik. Win multiple championships.

Plan B: Miss out on big name FA's, keep Lin, re-sign Parsons, use Asik money and Asik lotto pick and/or MLE to acquire backup SF and C.

What happened? LeBron happened. LeBron needed an extra day to write his essay for Sports Illustrated. Lin was dealt before Morey secured Bosh's commitment. Morey decides to give up on this season and try again next offseason, a risky move considering Dwight's ability to opt out in 2 years.

Can we just delete this thread now as Lin and the LOFs are gone?

This thread is not about Lin or LOFs.

This thread is about the trade.

That being said, I honestly dont think its as bad as the OP thinks. The offseason is not over. We can still make moves at the trade deadline. We can still get good assistant coaches.

Even with all that though, I think we will drop a few spots in the standings this upcoming season. Don't see a realistic shot at going all the way. I don't fault Morey tho, if anything, Bosh used us as leverage to get his money. Well, maybe its a little bit his fault. Bosh is someone who already has his rings. This is his last pay day. So its definitely possible he would take Money over more championships.

But when you have a chance at adding Bosh to our starting line up while keeping Parsons, its going to be hard not to do it.

DM gambled and lost. It happens. We are still in decent position to make big moves next season nothing else happens now.

Morey really screwed this team up. This is not the way to manage a team. All he sees are advanced stats and completely fails to see the importance of team chemistry, cohesion, and trust. He is just a cocky smart guy who thinks he can outsmart the entire league to win a championship. This is just not how sports work. F Morey.
