Gotcha. Didn't know if a sign-and-trade like that could be combined with other players/assets. If so, I was thinking that perhaps it could help generate some salary to match in the trade.

That wouldn't be important for Dragic since we have the trade exception, but I don't understand how we could match the salary to bring a player like Bledsoe back.

This is likely a pipe dream scenario anyhow, but the Rockets will run into the same problem with any player that makes more than the Lin trade exception. I haven't been able to figure out how they can match larger salaries in potential trades between now and the start of the season.

It's looking more and more like that. They might have heard something like we're trying to sign a Suns PG, who is even an ex-Rockets player. Holy shtt, we're trading for Dragic!!!

Turns out we only just signing Ish Smith out right. Not even a trade.

Well, the good news is at least we know KingDrew and Plowman are indeed in the know, even though not every detail...

The signings of Adrien/Dorsey/Ish are signaling a trade or the announcement of a future agreed-upon trade. There is NO OTHER REASON why we would go ahead and actually sign these guys after already announcing agreements with them. We're locking them down because there's a trade agreed to that is going to take away most of our rookie contracts.

Ok well glad we can all agree now that this "Drew" guy is no insider and just a attention seeking fraud.

I'm giving it one more chance tomorrow with the other insiders. They said Saturday, so I'll wait out 26 hours or so to see if they're pretty defined prediction will come true.

Otherwise, I'll just stick to what cyberx says.

Wow, YOU jump to conclusions, don't you?

The Rockets are choosing to operate above the cap for a reason. It was never very likely that they'd be able to use their cap room in order to acquire another key piece anyway.

Instead, the Rockets will continue to look for rotation pieces using the MLE and BAE and will keep that Lin TPE--which CANNOT be aggregated with other salaries for matching purposes--handy in case the right trade comes along.

Also, as CH mentioned, look for the Rockets to attempt to add a good (but not great) piece in September when Gee and Hopson can be combined with other salaries in trades. The piece they acquire in September could then be aggregated with more salary in November/December in an even larger trade.

The Rockets will have a better team by the end of the season than they have now.

If people want to believe a trade is on the horizon, so be it. Why do others feel the need to smother any hope? Damn. I don't care how implausible it seems, multiple people, including George Karl, referenced the Rockets looking at "a PG other than Rondo," and Dragic SEEMS to fit. So let's just see what happens.

Punting? Did Howard and Harden retire? Wtf is wrong with some of you ppl? We have the same starting four plus stingy defense on the wing which we needed desperately. Our starting five is still top four in the west. Some of yall are some spoiled cry babies. We're not gonna be a lottery team next year we have the best shooting guard in the league and one of the best big men in the league, at worse we're a four seed in the playoffs. Step off the ledge for God sake

When a team agrees to sign a free agent, how often do they keep those signings "on ice" for a long time? I am sure the players will push to have the contracts signed ASAP just in case some training accident happens before the signing becomes official. Smith, Dorsey and Adrien may be only minimum wage guys, but they likely have other NBA or overseas offers that they will take if Houston keep them on hold too long.

A player being "officially" signed shortly after news of his signing comes out is par for the course in the NBA as far as I know. They don't need to have plans for their existing players to officially sign anyone.

In fact, if announcing a signing is as good as officially signing them and the Rockets do have a trade lined up, why is it so critical to officially signed the guys before the trade as oppose to doing so after the trade.

A trade would be exciting, but not betting on this "tea leaf" meaning anything as to a trade.

It is really simple, if there is a way for the Rockets to get better, they will do it.

Indeed.... Clearly Woj is going to wait 16 hours to post about a trade he already knows about.
