24 and then, even more successfully, Lost started the recent trend of Highly Serialized shows that you now see on broadcast and basic cable TV. The idea of an over-arching plot and each episode tied into that story over multiple seasons had been done before, but not to scale of Lost (where EVERY Episode tied to the main plot). Since Lost, Almost every drama has tried to replicate that serialized concept. Lost was the first show to create a buzz on the internet....without Twitter or Facebook to drive the popularity...that Networks try to artificially created with the use of social media to various results. Without Lost and 24, shows like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Scandal, etc....would probably not be on or as successful.
I gave it a shot last year. For two seasons, it was pretty good as they pieced the character-centric episodes well, but the story kept getting more and more ridiculous with no answers. I could tell the story was quickly going nowhere after two seasons and dropped it without looking back.
Your first mistake was asking about Lost on Clutchfans and since you did the entire thing will be ruined for you! At least I think. Considering it is a big time investment to watch this massive series you should be more careful next time. Anyway, it is a great series with some flaws but not enough to ruin your enjoyment of it. Yes, there are many episodes that feel like fillers but in this day and age of binge watching it shouldn't feel like such a slap to the face. I cannot imagine watching Lost during it's run and waiting an entire week to find out certain things only to shake my head and grit my teeth that they dedicated only 10 minutes of an entire episode acknowledging something that was crucial in the last cliffhanger. Anyway, I felt like all the time I invested to Lost on Netflix was well worth it. I cried, I laughed, I cringed, I rolled my eyes, I yelled at imaginary characters, I yelled WTF! a lot, I lusted, I yawned, I was on the edge of my seat MANY times...So yes, do your self a favor and watch and complete Lost. It is completely worth it.
I think it was a show that you had to watch as the rest of the world watched it too. The crazy speculations you get talking about it with other watchers or on discussion threads was what helped get people wrapped up in it. You'd get people who would do so much research into the meaning of a certain number or people citing 10 different mythologies trying to predict how the story would end. And after all this time I still think The Constant in season 4 is the best episode of anything I've seen on big network television. And Kate's shirts seem to shrink the further into the series you go, so you'll have that going for you until The Constant blows your mind.
First 3 seasons are the best show I've seen, after breaking bad. Then just skip to the last episode. If you feel confused... You still would have been confused if you watched all the episodes between anyways.
Definitely give it a go. I'm glad I never watched it on tv, I think it's a show you have to binge watch. As others have mentioned the first few seasons are great and you can't wait for the next episode. But it does go downhill from there. Still definitely worth the watch. And them feels when it's over... Not many shows have made me have that feeling when it's over.
It is a great show. My favorite. There was one lesser season imho (not sure which but it was the one with the spider episode). I also do not agree that we didn't get answers. I think we got answers to almost all the questions. The problem was with every answer a new question arrived and some did not like it. But almost all questions are answered. For me this is the greatest tv show ever. And i have been trying to find a show that comes even remotely close. Buy i have not been able to.
Quit pressuring him. Stick to the funner question...if you want to derail this thread like me... (and I even posted pics that are totally getting ignored by you geeks of TV) except for dc rock Kate v Sun v Claire Can we finally settle that, first?
I got in to the show late and was a bit disappointed with the end [I binge watched to catch up . . . ] Rocket River
