If NBA experience is your only criteria then I can see how you are ok with these signings. Try Ed Davis if you want a min. Or how about renounce and using the cap space or the MLE/TPE. Signing our old NBA busts in hopes of getting a gem is the equivalent of getting back with bad ex-girlfriends with the hopes that maybe they've changed. There is a whole big world out there, pick a different girl. And if all this is to tread water until FA 2015 begins, then I think wasting another year with dleague contracts while we have 2 stars here is sickening. Will FAs really want to leave money on the table and join a squad that treads water? Now...IF he does happen to pull something off then...never mind...
i remember when people said that all the time about him. And then got Harden in one off season and Dwight the next. Houston never tanked, had zero all-star players to trade and no high draft picks.
Did you not read what I wrote?? If he hands out bigger multi year deals then our flexibility to get a third star is GONE. You guys are worried about him replacing the lins and asiks, SMH. That's not going to make us into real contenders. You get the big fishes first and then work around them, not the other way around, at least not when you're dealing with max and near max deals. Secure the core and then fill in the rest with what is left. These guys like dorsey, ish, and adrien are just temporary.
How are you going to get this 3rd star? Trade? Dorsey, Adrien, Ish don't raise a lot of interest. Sign? Do you think a FA will leave money on the table to join a 5-7 seed team in the West that treads water?
i know he cant replace lin and asik without using a big portion of the cap doesnt mean every single player he signs should be on the most absoultue god forsaken cheapest contract they would accept.
The balance between delusional homers and realistic fans is catching on. Im enjoying reading and seeing people being freed from this bull**** brainwashing Morey is doing. I'm ok with his signings but keep your hands off the coaching. The reason and only reason I joined this forum 5 years ago is because I was in pain seeing tmac and yao being surrounded by trash. Also people over rating Battier.
Morey is currently working the 'low risk' moves. Joey Dorsey as backup C? Well, he's a big man who specializes in protecting the paint and grabbing rebounds. It will either work out, or it won't. Min salary - who cares? Jeff Adrien in the PF rotation? Well, he's a hustle big man who finishes well, rebounds well, and plays some D. It will either work out, or it won't. Min salary - who cares? Ish Smith as a backup PG? Well, he's made a few NBA rosters, so is insurance in case the young guys just aren't ready. It will either work out, or it won't. Min salary - who cares? He isn't finished chasing guys who might contribute as rotation players - see his pursuit of Mike Miller and Ray Allen for example - but while chasing them, he isn't averse to trying to get some min salary guys on the roster. Thus far the BAE, MLE, and TPE have been preserved. I'd like to see us use the BAE and MLE before the season starts if only so that we have salary to match in making a trade.
He can use the pelicans pick, jones or d-mo and the 8.3 mil trade exception to get the third star. But there's no reason to not be offering the MLE and BAE to established NBA role players like Ray Allen, Shawn Marion and Jameer Nelson. The Rockets most experienced bench player is D-Mo right now. Think about that.
Thats a pretty bad analogy in this scenario. You don't need 15 girlfriends to make a relationship complete. If this were a one on one tournament and Morey signed Dorsey, then went to Ish, etc...then it would be comparable, but it's not. Do we know Ed Davis was open to coming here? Do we know he was willing to wait? These guys haven't signed yet. They have to wait to sign, so we can still use cap space. And i really doubt Morey is just going to pack up his office this week and return in a year. There's plenty of time from now until next summer for moves to be made. You have to have patience at times. For example, it seems Boston is hoping they can get Love and pair him with Rondo. If Love is traded to Cleveland though, then that opens discussions with Boston again. You can't just force Boston into dealing now. It could happen this week or in 3 months. Other guys may become unhappy and look for a trade mid season... If we sign that star, then we won't be treading water anymore, will we? That's the point. We're not inviting a star to join a stripped down team looking to build something. We're already several steps in. That's the reason why they'd come, assuming they want to win.
he could at least let the fans know he will be going after an experiend role player, ease our minds about these min contract deals
We dont know if he is or isnt offering it. Those guys haven't signed with anyone yet. He still can do it. These min guys like Ish are set up to sign later, over the cap, if needed.
You're right we don't. However, how much long longer do you expect players like that to sit waiting to sign. I think the logic of waiting to use the BAE and MLE after acquiring the third star is highly risky, considering how picked over the free agent pool is. It doesn't matter which occurs first, the trade for the third star with the 8.3 mil exception, or signing guys with the MLE and BAE.
So really...you think a FA would leave money on the table to sign with a team that's been treading water and looking for it's next 1st round bounce?
Im not sure what those others guys are thinking, but i do know Ray Allen said he's in no hurry to decide. Like i said, you do realize that the point of getting that FA would be to take the next step, as in going further into the playoffs? So, the FA wouldn't be joining the team thinking it's a first round team. He'd be joining under the impression that he'll give us the final piece to get past our current standing. You keep mentioning this, as if his signing wouldn't improve the team. Then, why would we sign him? If he wants to win, then yeah he would leave money.
It ain't over till Morey says it is over. These small signings are just the training camp fodder. We will be lucky if one of them make the teams 15 man roster.
