That's unfortunate for them and very stupid too because they literally have all the cap space in the world. Keep Bledsoe, still be under the cap, trade Dragic in the middle of the season if you really are cheap for assets. Although it all depends on how much Bledsoe gets this off-season. If he gets south of $13M then they'll probably keep Dragic.

Do we get bird rights on Dragic? If so, can totally see us trading for Dragic.

    Trade for Dragic
    Dragic expires
    We sign Love (or somebody)
    Re-sign Dragic with bird rights

    Dragic
    Harden
    Ariza
    Love
    Howard

Morey, I, and surely Ccorn, will go go down on you if you complete.

He is not an insider. All his crap during the draft was wrong. Told us we'd trade the pick if Cleanthony Early wasn't available in the 1st. Told us we'd take Cleanthony Early in the first.

Dragic isn't restricted though, so we can't go over the cap to match his contract. Since he's unrestricted, if we use the cap space to sign Kevin Love first, we won't be able to resign Dragic.

At least that's how I think it works.

I think he would be the perfect glue guy for this team. Familiar with most of the players already.

We don't deserve AB. He deserves more. Underpaid and under appreciated his whole career. If he's smart he stays away from the Rockets.

Not how it works. Has nothing to do with UFA v. RFA. When a player on your team becomes a free agent entering the offseason they create a cap hold. Off the top of my head I do not recall what the exact number, but I believe for players coming off non-rookie scale contracts the cap hold becomes 150% of their final year salary. There are other stipulations (how Parsons cap hold ended up being 3x his final year salary) but that is the gist of it. The only reason that the Parsons' situation worked was because his contract was so cheap to start with, we could afford his cap hold while still having max room.
The only way to rid yourself of the cap hold is to renounce your rights to the player, which in effect says you cannot use bird rights to go over the salary cap to resign him.

Bird rights and restricted are different.

Dragic is not restricted, which means he can choose to sign wherever he wants and we have no say in it.

Bird rights means we can go over the cap to re-sign the player who expired, even if un-restricted.
