Yes washed up.... Gibson carried them in the playoffs... Carlos looked his age in the playoffs... T_Man
He averaged 10 and 8 in the playoffs, 14 and 12 per 36, which is better than Jones 16 and 9 per 36 for the entire season. If that's being carried, then by all means let us carry him. Adjust that for pace (Houston was #5, Chicago was 3rd worst), and Boozer was the better player last season. Being a UK fan, I like Jones probably more than anyone here, but Boozer on the cheap splitting time, even starting over Jones, is the best option we have right now at PF.
I know its boozer and **** the jazz, BUT, If he gets past bids, then id be all in for him if we can get him cheap. We need cap space to make an amnesty bid, which would make us lose the trade exception from Lin, and I don't think we should be willing to give that up
not willing to give up the trade exception and the MLE. That's a ridiculous amount to trade for Boozer.. i'd rather have Marion or something plus the flexibility of the TPE
And also its worth mentioning I am actually a believer in T. Jones, I think he played way above expectations last season and will only get better. With that said, I think he would be great playing big minutes off the bench with Boozer being the starter.
Actually, we'd have to give up all the exceptions, because they all go away the moment you fall under the cap. That's why Morey did the complicated three-way trade for Ariza vs going under the cap to sign him outright, to protect the other cap exceptions we had.
So how does this Boozer thing work since he was amnistied or whatever. .. do all the teams that want him bid on him like a freaking foreclosure? ?? The highest bidder wins?
I may be in the minority here, but I don't want to punt this season away. Harden is a fringe MVP candidate, and Howard is in his prime. I think we can still make a run at the title with a pick up like Boozer. The dude has had a top 10 defensive rating the last four years. His defensive rating is 7 points better than Jones. Last season, our two biggest weaknesses were defense and the mid-range game. Boozer solves both. A lineup with Ariza and Boozer in place for Parsons and Jones instantly makes us infinitely better on defense, and Boozer can still space the floor for Dwight. Boozer sets hard screens. A pick and roll/pop with him and Dwight on the weak sides makes defenses choose one of the three options, and it has a chance to work now that Jones wouldnt be the one soft screening or diving early. Not only that, but it keeps Dwight from running the PnR, which he doesn't want to do. Assuming Beverly and Harden get better, we have a realistic shot to make noise next season if we sign a guy like Boozer. A solid screen setter, a better defender, a 39% shooter from 16ft on out to the 3pt line.
Only teams with cap space can bid. We don't have cap space unless we renounce all our exceptions. Then we might still lose for not being the highest bidder. Not only is it the "highest bidder" it's a sealed envelope auction. The player nor agents have any say to negotiate. There is no way we are going to renounce all our exceptions for a sealed envelope auction for Boozer. And there is no way he will not get a bid in the auction.
That's a pretty risky process, very entertaining. .. Our Morey likes to swing the bat but I think he will stay in the dugout.... Thanks for the info
If we bid on him and win him then I would be fine with that. I think around 2.5 million should do the trick. Otherwise...I think Ed Davis would be a great option at PF. Bring him in and see what he's got. He's only 24 I think and averaged 6 points and about 5 rebounds with only 15 minutes of playing time. Think he could be had relatively cheap.
Boozer is neither a good defender nor a good midrange shooter. At almost 33, he's washed up now. Pass.
http://houston.cbslocal.com/2014/07...tied-by-bulls-does-he-make-sense-for-rockets/ @HeyPartner According to this article we have the necessary cap space.
Worse rebounder and shot blocker than T Jones. Bulls boards seem to think he's the worst defender on their team and I'm sure he's benefitted a ton by playing next to the reigning DPOY and best defensive coach in recent memory. On offense, he is better at hitting mid range but T Jones is better at hitting the 3. This team doesn't really like the mid range J. Jones has more chemistry with current Rockets, obviously. Jones is 22. Boozer is 32. They will cost roughly the same, but we're already paying Jones. We would have to add Boozer to our payroll and get rid of another PF since it's too crowded and Boozer can't play the 3 or the 5. Boozer has way more experience. Yeeaaaahh... I think I'm going to stick with Jones. I'd probably also stick with D-Mo over Boozer, but only because D-Mo is a better defender and shows the commitment to improve at his young age. All in all, I think the only people who need Boozer are those who are desperate for any sort of widely recognized player to be signed after our let down in the FA market. Stop panicking guys, there are better options we can pursue at PF. If we're getting vets on the cheap I think we look for SF's and PG's. The leftover FA PF's are more underwhelming than the rest, and Jones is a promising option.
15-19 ft Kevin Durant - 43% Paul George - 39% Anthony Davis - 36% Tim Duncan - 37% Pau Gasol - 41% Josh Smith - 35% Lebron James - 33% Kevin Love 35% Carlos Boozer - 130/317 (10th most attempts in the league) - 41% K.... Thanks
We have to renounce all our cap exceptions to get under the cap. Exceptions count as salary until used or renounced. You can't have cap room and exceptions to use for being over the cap at the same time. Cap room and Exception to the cap are mutually exclusive. As I said before, this is why Morey did the complicated three team trade for Ariza and Asik, rather than signing Ariza outright as a FA using cap space. He didn't want to fall under the cap, thus nullifying all our exceptions
