Interesting, hopefully things works out for Dorsey this time around. I was hoping for a different player but I guess this is all Morey could come up with.

Here's a Q&A that Morey did with Zach Lowe in 2013:

    http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=234857&highlight=dorsey+Asik

Among the topics discussed was Omer Asik. At around the 9:30 mark or so, Morey mentioned that the team messed up by not drafting Omer Asik and had been trying to trade for him forever since then.

Omer was drafted with the 36th pick in the 2008 draft. The Rockets had the 33rd pick of that draft (acquired by trade) and used it to select...

    Yep. Joey Dorsey.

IIRC, Dorsey's on-court issue was that he fouled too damn much. His off-court issue was that when the Rockets sent him down to RGV, he kept on going across the border for drinks and prostitutes.

The important question here is which he spent the most money on.

Dorsey was already a great rebounder when he went first got to the NBA (13.3 per 36)

If he has learned how to play good position defense to go along with that he could be a steal as an energy guy off the bench.

We don't have to worry about this now. The drinks and prostitutes are on Harden. Joey won't have to spend anything.

The Dorsey I remember was a knucklehead, who had bad handles, made too many stupid fouls, had no offensive skill, and couldn't make a free throw to save his life. But if he ends up as a backup to Howard, we need 13-14 minutes a night of serious rebounding, and clogging the paint from him. And he does have a live body with strength. If he can focus on that, with maturity, he will serve his purpose well. We don't need a $15 mil sulking Asik for that role.

I doubt that there would have been "reports" about his trips across the border if they thought all he did was getting some burritos.

For a guy who averaged only 10 mpg, the per36 numbers are very unreliable.

How about V Span? Didn't he reign over the Greek League? Moochie would do though.

Why would anyone be mad about this? We are in the same financial situation as before we signed Dorsey. We are opting to operate above the cap, and since he signed to a minimum contract, we still have our full MLE, full BAE, and Lin's $8.3 million TPE to use.

This is a low risk-high reward signing. Simple as that.

Probably more of a low risk-low reward type of signing, but either way, still no reason to be upset.

That's exactly what we said about Asik when we first signed him. His numbers looked really good in limited time and fortunately it ended up translating when he got bigger minutes, but he was a giant gamble and question mark for the most part when he signed that huge deal. Dorsey signed for 2 million. Nothing to lose here. Playing with house money so to speak. If he fails no harm done, but if he succeeds he is a tremendous bargain.

    So it seems

    Plan A
    Get Bosh
    Resign Parson
Shore up second unit (Dorsey, Papanikolaou etc.)

    turned into

    Plan B
    Miss out on Bosh
Don't match for Parson --> sign Ariza
Shore up second unit (Dorsey, Papanikolaou etc.)
Wait for the next Big Fish
