Interesting idea to fold it into the Ariza deal. According to Feigen, the Ariza trade won't be official until tomorrow. How would this mechanically work?
Upfront I think the issue is that his contract, while decent, runs too long. But my question there would be if there are real FA's available next year that the Rockets think they can obtain, unless Illyasova is freaking horrible this year, can't DM just flip him for space next offseason, as he has now done with Asik and Lin? Especially if we also obtain an asset for taking him on? In other words, if the Rockets will take on that contract this year, why wouldn't another team next year when it will for sure be shorter in length, and he's potentially coming off a better year? It's at least an interesting option. this was a guy I was very high on before this year. which may mean I dont' know diddly... but I suspect his performance drop was largely due to (i) injury and (ii) the situation in Milwaukee.
Two years ago he averaged 17 and 9 per 36. Last season he only played in 55 games, but still averaged 11 and 6. His contract looks bad, but is only three years. He's still only 27 and has never played starter minutes. Sorry didn't see there as already a thread about him, but can't help but to reply.
My thoughts being, if the Bucks are eagerly shopping him, Morey could swing a good deal for him. Maybe get the Bucks to throw in Brandon Knight (wouldnt that be sweet) for a pick and Jones or Dmo?
I'd still rather have Ryan Anderson - similar sized contracts, similar roles, both had injuries last season, but I just feel Anderson is the better player and would be a more perfect fit as a stretch 4. And we already know he works well with Dwight. From what I gather the Pellies don't want to part with him, but maybe if we could get Ilyasova there as a replacement? I don't know, probably not, thinking out loud... If we could get Ilyasova cheap though I'd take a chance on him. He's a better shooter than TJ and could stretch it for us, would help Dwight more in his comfort zone. Worth a conversation with Hammond, I think.
This is what I'm saying. Brandon Knight isn't incredible, but he has the potential to be very good (only 22) at a position of need for us. Illyasova would improve the PF spot significantly and be a good fit next to Dwight. That would seem to get it done.
The Bucks were hoping to get a elite first rounder for him before the draft. They will be expecting to get something back. Not a salary dump. Maybe Capella for him?
The guy sucks. I don't understand how clutchfans is so obsessed over this stiff, james Franco looking, over paid scrub.
has been irrelevant for a while. at this point, i would only want to trade for a clear upgrade at the PG or PF, which he is not imo.
Exactly. If we can give up a bit to get Knight and Ilayasova, that is a win and gives us a solid starting five.
Not to mention if he can come into our offense and knock down 3's and shoot a high percentage, its possible he can get moved two or three seasons from now as an asset.
Hahaha, he just got destroyed by putting a Pistons uniform on. Averaged 18 ppg, 5 apg, 4 rpg this season! (Not fantastic percentages, but not horrible either just needs to work on that a bit)
If the price were low I would be all over this. Illyasova had one bad injury riddled season, on a terrible team. Wouldn't be the first player that has happened to. He's a great rebounder, adequate defender, and great shooter. Some people want Anderson, but Illyasova is a much better defender. He would become an expiring contract in the offseason, so it really isn't that bad if he doesn't work out.
