Yes we could have Amnestied Lin to match Parsons...We could have amnestied Lin to sign Ariza. We could have done this IF WE DIDN'T GIVE ASIK AWAY bc we would have been up against the cap.
Prob right...they'd at least consider it...Pop coaches, Morey acquires talent but you're right they don't need any help over there these days.
I think you got me mistaken for Tinman but to answer your question no lol and I've never said as much. You have no reason to pat him on the back when he all he's done was acquire Harden and Howard and yet you feel like it's your duty to criticize him for taking a calculate risk to obtain a 3rd star this year who, btw, was ours until Miami decided to throw in the 5th year on his contract? Market has absolutely nothing to do with the NBA in terms of player movement. Case in point? Miami is a small market and had Bosh, Wade, and LeBron. Cleveland just got LeBron back. San Antonio's succeed despite being in a much smaller market. New York Knicks suck balls. The Lakers couldn't attract any free agents this year even though they had cap space. lol What was that key? Parsons?? Right, because at the trade deadline everyone here was in agreement to trade Parsons. Please, the forum was divided on that and most didn't want to lose Parsons. Hindsight is 20/20. Pick up his MAX contract only to trade him? That's a smart thing to do, considering he has a player option as well as a trade kicker attached to that contract his signed. Morey got cute? What's cute is that people want to second guess Morey because 1. Bosh took the money and ran at the last minute 2. Cuban OVERPAID for Parsons
No one on the roster including Lin and Asik were eligible for amnesty. That was for contracts signed under the old agreement and we used it on Scola. Are you talking about cutting him then using the stretch provision? Not a very appealing option since the plan we were going with needed every cent of cap space possible. Stretching a player still leaves a portion counting towards the cap.
LOL even if we COULD have amnestied Lin, why in the world is that a viable option??? You're paying the guy $15 million to play but you want to cut him so you can match ANOTHER OVERPAID contract?
Would it be better to give a first round pick away? If we're going to swing and miss let's at least do it to actually acquire a guy we like. For example, overpay parsons if that's what you have to do or better yet, keep him for 900K and trade him along with that pick you pissed away for Rajon Rondo. Instead, we made a "calculated" risk on Bosh and now we have neither Parsons or the pick.
I like Morey. But the team needs to win at some point...in the playoffs. Sports are a bottom line business, whether we like it or not. At some point Morey needs to be able to point to playoff series victories for a team he built. I don't really see that as criticism...I think that's just the way it is.
We tried to get bosh here before and it didn't work so don't act like we were on the cusp of signing him...He didn't want to come here before and he made it clear that his mind hasn't changed. I'm happy that Cuban overpaid for Parsons...believe me, nothing makes me happier than the Mavs making poor front office decisions. What pisses me off is that Morey went this route to begin with. Keep Parsons on his rookie contract, trade Asik, cut Lin after you sign Ariza, take that first round pick you used to get rid of Lin and couple it with Parsons to go get Rondo. You still get rid of Lin/Asik/Parson/and the pick but instead of only having Ariza to show for it you now have both Ariza and Rondo.
You probably said why go after Dwight when we didn't get him the first time too.....C'mon man....make these first 20 posts count, don't go out like this....
Miami has the beaches and at the time they had Wade and Pat Riley to bring them in and it's a pretty big market... Cleveland doesn't count bc Lebron wanted to go home. The Spurs have the 7th largest population in the US, coach Pop, and 5 rings of late to show for their success...oh and by the way, the stars on the spurs rosters were drafted. Patty Mills, Boris Diaw, etc would have signed with us or anyone else if the contract were offered to them first. I believe they originally acquired Diaw via trade. The Lakers couldn't acquire a big name this offseason bc Bosh was clearly committed to staying in Miami if they money was right (a very large market as well). Ohio fell into luck bc that's where King James was born. New York got the second biggest name on the market this offseason bud. Pau left L.A. bc he's old and he wants to win and he realizes it's not happening in L.A. before he calls it a day. You're either naive or just really dumb if you think market size has nothing to do with what attracts players.
Dwight was traded to L.A. bro...he said he wouldn't sign long term with us...guess what, he didn't sign long term with L.A. either. Gamble on a jump shooting big when you have the best center in the NBA or go for the sure thing and trade for a top 5 point guard? To me the decision is simple here especially given what you stand to lose by going after Bosh.
So what is it that you're really crying about? 1. That we didn't overpay for Parsons even though that would have handcuffed our possibility of trading/signing a better player in the next couple of seasons? 2. That we didn't keep Parsons on his cheap deal and see what would have happened next year when he's an UFA and could take ANY deal that gets thrown at him? 3. That we didn't trade Parsons for Rondo because THAT was what Ainge and Boston wanted even though they knew of Parsons' contract situation?
Why don't you make a post count? You tell me how it was worth the gamble losing a > $1 million trade piece and a first rounder to come up empty. Sell me on why you think Bosh was the clear choice over simply trading for Rondo? I'm a fan but I won't blindly follow every move our front office makes because I love the Rockets. Morey put too much thought into this and struck out and it's not his first mistake either.
Parson isnt worth Rondo or Love because of his basketball ability. He was Regarded highly because of the value of his contract. A contract that was Only valuable for the rest of this next coming season only to us. After that he was Getting paid and every other team and us knew it. His window of value dwindling And probably maxed out at last years trade deadline. Even then I think it would have Taken a lot more than Parsons to make those trades happen.
2 and 3. I myself like Parsons around 6-8 million I think but maybe not even that high. Call me crazy but there have been other players who don't turn out well when leaving a run and gun system that allows them to fire away at will. I think Parsons was partially a product of our fast paced system. Having said that, when you have an asset at his salary you do not opt out under any circumstances. Worst case scenario, we trade him for a late first rounder just before the deadline. I just can't believe they let him out of his rookie deal knowing what his trade value was.
What are you constituting as a big market? Beaches? LOL Do you even know what that means? Why doesn't this count? He could have went anywhere but we went home, to a smaller market. When he went to Miami, they were a small market. Howard could have stayed in LA but he went to Houston, a smaller market. His other suitor? Dallas, a city with a smaller market than LA. You REALLY don't know how the Spurs organization and culture is managed if you think Patty Mills and Boris Diaw would have signed anywhere else. FYI, Diaw torpedoed his career in Charlotte before Pop and Parker took him on as a reclamation project. Again, what are you using to as "market"? You like to throw that word around as if it is going to make you any smarter. You want to say San Antonio's a big market because of population? Okay. Your "big" market Miami? It's population is less than 1 million. Bosh didn't follow the big market because if he did he would have went to Houston. Nope he went to the money. Melo staying in New York? Yea, it's a big market but you can't tell me he didn't stay because they could have paid him the most.
