I think not matching parsons is a good move by the Rockets. But i get the sense that they are making too many excuses to cover up for the shortcomings in coaching and putting it on the players as if they are suppose to just figure out everything themselves. It was a dissapointment to lose to portland, and i feel the Rockets started to play how they were suppose to play two games too late. Houston has two potential superstars, and if coached and built around correctly, i dont think a third is a must. Its just a luxury. Not many teams can say they have two potential superstars. I thought mchale did a poor job the first two games of the portland payoffs but did think he coached well enough other games, but it was just too late.

LOL, people around here are laughing at the Mavericks, saying they have no bench....yet are trying to feel good about our bench?!?! This is a 6-8th seed as constituted, and chalk up another 1st round exit.

Who will handle the ball when Harden rests?? Who will we look to score if when Harden/D12 are getting a blow?

I think sometimes people forget that you cannot just pick up someone like Popovich or Thibs off the street. They are very rare, and if there was someone out there that the Rockets felt were in that class, they would be the Rockets coach right now.

People forget, the Rockets were strongly interested in Carlisle prior to him joining the Mavericks.

It's easier to take it up the *** that way?

    I guess. (Ahem.)

exactly....Diaw, Danny Green, Patty Mill etc would be scrubs on other team, but the Spurs turn them into integral parts.

Either Morey has no confidence can do something like that, or he believes it's too much of a challenge, so the shortcut is to get a 3rd star. Which is fine, if he'll come.

Parsons will have to hustle his butt off to make this work. Since he thinks he is a allstar not only will Batum be putting him in his place this upcoming season but so will Leonard, Durant, Ariza, Iggy and others will too if he starts to smelling himself too much.

Yes... two players said "yes". But... Bosh (two times)? LBJ? Lowry? Melo? Our time is NOW, not next year, or 2016, or 2037!!!! Wait a year to do the same? "Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results" A.E.

Flexability? If Morey hadn't made Parsons restricted, and didn't use him as a part of a deal this summer, and he either played at his current level, or improved, and he's improved every season, except defensively (and he has the ability to be a better defender than we've seen the last couple of seasons), then Parsons would have been a great "asset" at the deadline for a team looking for a player to put them over the top. Then they could have worried about whether they could keep him after the season. That's also flexability. And if Parsons did improve, perhaps a contract offer might have been considered worth matching at the end of next season, or perhaps he wouldn't have wanted to leave. We can't know. There is all sorts of flexability, folks. I'll add something else. This notion that Parsons would be allowed out of his contract due to "recruiting Howard" is a notion I find absolutely absurd. Just my humble opinion looking at the wreckage of this off-season. I'm just hoping that when Morey is through, I'll feel better about things.

Asik certainly DID help in the playoffs. McHale put him on LMA 2 games too late.

Asik was very important. He's just too expensive to be used as a backup. It will be very difficult to find someone better to keep up the defense and rebounding when Howard sits. And you'd better pray that Dwight won't get hurt.

Well if we assume that there wasn't a wink wink agreement concerning Parsons when Howard signed; I am sure he wishes that he didn't make Parsons a restricted free agent in hindsight. He took a gamble that he could get a max free agent and keep Parsons. He almost pulled it off but it didn't happen. Morey is a gambler by nature, he relies on the odds.

I think there was a fear (and a reasonable one in hindsight) that Parsons would have left as an unrestricted free agent regardless of how much the Rockets offered. Parsons wants to be FEATURED in an offense, he thinks he is a franchise player and he wasnt ever going to be featured in Houston with Howard and Harden.

Still, one more season of Parsons > no Parsons in 2014-15.

Agree. Looks like he was never asked in interview as to 'why" he let Parsons out of this contract a year early. To me that was the whole SNAFU on his part and I still don't get why he would gamble like that and possibly lose him for nothing (which actually happened).

I think Morey was hoping that by making Parsons restricted you'd get him at a Tony Parker type deal. Teams rarely gamble by offering restricted free agents the max.

    Who is going after Bledsoe?

That's normally what happens with RFA. Morey probably thought he'd end up with Parsons on a deal in the 8-10 million range and that you'd have a key piece locked in at a reasonable rate.

Dallas going out and giving Parsons the max and a burdensome contract was unexpected. Heck, most of the board would laugh at you last year if you said Parsons might get the max in free agency. Some of the posters would call you an idiot/moron/r****d/some other derogatory remark with a flaming post.

I still wouldn't have done it.

People have such short memories. The same flexibility got us Harden and Howard. Remember? Sure, it hasn't panned out so far this season. But even with Parsons we're not true contenders. So I'd rather be a mediocre team with flexibility, than a one without.

    Who gives a ****.

He is trying to build a championship team, that what he needs to focus on, not pleasing the fans.

let me see. Morey avoided paying 45 mill to parsons, asik, and lin. Then he replaced parsons with a better defender/shooter.

looks good to a bball fan but bad to a rockets fan

Why are you all dissing Morey's plan? It almost worked. Bosh just went for the money. If Bosh had signed with us, Morey would have matched.

Hey, Melo even went back to NY when people thought he would go to CHI. These kinds of decisions cannot be fully predicted.

Well said Deck. I feel like we haven't heard the whole story yet of how Parsons was let out of his contract early. The whole thing just doesn't make sense. Its so incredibly un-Morey-like.

Also note that Parsons thanked Morey & Les for letting him out of his deal early. I dont know what was going on behind the scenes with him, Fegan, and the Rockets, but there is something there we dont know about with that relationship & the dialog they had leading up to this Summer.

I wonder if Howard will come here when he is a free agent?

Oh Yea, I forgot he already did.
