Technically we don't have any cap space, but if we renounced all exceptions (MLE, TE, BAE) and cut all non-guaranteed contracts (Gee, Beverly, Covington, Powell & Hopson) the Rockets could open up about ~11 million in salary cap space.

I was wondering this too...doesn't seem like there is a whole lot of interest out there for him. Obviously Indiana has offered him a contract (when I saw it I thought it was a lowball). I'm sure Charlotte has interest after losing out on Heyward. The only other team I have seen attached to him is the Suns in a sign and trade for Dragic.

Love to have him...like Carl said I think the only way to get him that makes sense for US would be 1 year at big money. But, I don't think we win a bidding war with Charlotte or Phoenix. They just have way more money than we do.

He was the better player last year out of He, Parsons, and Heyward. Teams must be really concerned about his attitude.

Thanks. Any idea how much we'd have if we kept the players we wanna keep? So Beverly and Covington mainly?

I think Indy offered 9 million a year over 5 years. 10 might be enough, but I doubt it.

Beverly and Covington's combined salary is $1,731,725.00 so that means we could offer between 9 & 10 million starting salary.

Indy's offer was reported to be 44 million over 5 years. Indy can offer 7.5% raises each year which would mean that the starting salary offer from Indy was about 7.7 million. Here is what Lances total offer probably looked like from Indy.

    Code:
    1	$7,700,000
    2	$8,277,500
    3	$8,855,000
    4	$9,432,500
    5	$10,010,000

    Totals:	$44,275,000
By the way here is what Lance's contract from Houston would look like if it started at 10 million with the max 4.5% raises over 4 seasons which is the max Houston can offer:

    Code:
    1	$10,000
    2	$10,450
    3	$10,900
    4	$11,350

    Totals:	$42,700

Exactly, 2-3 million a year more on average + he would make us contenders!

I'm not a cap guy, but how do we not have any cap space? We traded Asik and Lin (~16million in cap) and lost Parsons and only brought in Ariza (~8million in cap).

I'm assuming Gee and Hopson were planned to be cut? And possibly Powell

11m is a lot of cap space when the cap is 63 (?)

It was stupid not to match Parsons if we are not going to use that cap room to grab another 'potential' player. We did it with Harden, Lin, Asik, Daniels, DMo, Jones, Royce (who didn't work out).

Why not use that money to go after a guy who could be exactly what we need? If he doesnt play well, trade him, but if he does, he makes us contenders. If we arent going to use that extra cap space, why let Parsons go?

Morey needs to salvage now. Not wait a season. People will be demanding his head on a pike if we suck next season.
People will get their pitchforks and run his ass out of town if he whiffs again in 2016.

Lance can play/guard three positions on the floor. I remember he played point guard in highschool.

I'd get him. We need more goons on this team so why not sign a talented one in Stephenson?

To be fair any SG/SF in the NBA could have played any position they wanted in high-school.

    23 years old
Lead the league in tripple doubles
    Explosive, Energetic, and Passionate
    Versatile from PG to SF

We can rotate Beverly, Harden, Ariza, and Stephenson at the 1-3 positions showing no weakness in the back court.

We can play scrappy defense with small ball & constant fast breaks:
    Howard
    Ariza
    Stephenson
    Harden
    Beverly

We will have one of the most athletic rotations in the West

This team with Tjones, TDaniels, and whatever bench players we can throw into the mix will put us into top 3 in the west in my opinion. In the West it is almost impossible to gaurantee yourself a better team than the Spurs and the Thunder. So all we can do is get into the top 3 and then try and survive the Western Conference Play offs. It takes most teams decades to try and grab 2 super starts like Howard and Harden. Let's not waist 1 year with these guys. We should definitely approach Stephenson and see what can be done.

I'm not a cap expert so don't take my word for this , but I did read Larry coons cap FAQ last night lol. Ok so we signed and traded Ariza keeping us over the cap and saving us The TPE from the Lin trade of about 8.5 million dollars; also in the ariza deal we received Gee whose contract is for 3 million completely unguaranteed. I think we are able to send Gee and the TPE to Indiana to do a sign and trade for Stephenson for about 11.5 million . I think that should be enough to get him and even at that price I would love to have him . Since it would be a sign and trade the contract would have to be for at least 3 years although I'm not sure what options we could put in it.

So in summary I think we will be able to afford lance but it will have to be through a sign and trade which means INdy will have to tango with us . They might require incentive , however in a sign and trade such as the one described they would generate a trade expection ( again I think ) which is a nice asset to have.

He's still waiting for a team to want him..

And we are wasting cap space on nobodies.

    Success!

I can definitely see him and Howard acting a fool together.
