We could have still built depth by matching Parsons.

    Beverly/Canaan/Johnson
    Harden/Daniels
    Parsons/Ariza
    Jones/Jason Smith
    Howard/Blair/Dmo

Saying we should have depth like the Spurs doesn't mean be exactly like the Spurs.

Unfortunately you don't know if he could be again. And seeing as how McHale was the coach he was under when he was a good defensive player, that makes no sense. It's not like McHale told Parsons to suddenly stop playing defense.

OMG, do you watch Basketball games?

Howard played on...Robin Lopez. Howard dominated Lopez all season...you are disagreeing based on one favorable match-up.

The difference between me and LA fans? I'm saying Howard peaked now, they said it before last season. At that time I said there was improvment to be made in his post game.

He won't get that much better.

Ariza was impressive in the Eastern conference. There were better teams who missed the playoffs in the West, then half the teams in the East playoffs. Put the Wizards in the West and see what happens.

So you've got 2 teams, one of which has been broken up. That's why you need a better option than Parsons, or you don't even bother trying?

So 5 games demonstrates that 82 games was meaningless? Is it possible that another year of these guys playing together might make them better? Or adding additional backups would help? Or that better coaching and a better system might make a difference? Besides, Parsons averaged 18 ppg in the Portland series - how is that NOT a 3rd option? That might even be a 2nd option.

this. I don't think we should blame it all on Morey. Its our ****ing owner. Before anybody brings in the "He was gonna pay for max guys!!"---well why do you think its ok for him to pay for them? They bring in a crap load of revenue. If you can sell people the picture on the box, you can raise the prices despite the product being inferior. Through big names, Les will almost certainly get his $$ back even if he dips into the LT.

Today, Chandler Parsons became Radio Raheem and this place turned into Sal's Restaurant. :(

Dude, most of these guys are in delusional mode.

It is probably better that way, rather than accepting how much worse the team got thanks to free agency kicking our ass.

I don't understand what kind of koolaid they're drinking. The most obnoxious thing though is when they call you out for being lesser fans, I'm glad MadMax straight up dick whipped one of them in that other thread.

Its not whether Les cares about winning or not it's about the plan they have laid out and are executing.

They have made decisions and put a value on everything. They value having that last right of refusal with restricted fa and that is the decision we took with parsons.

They decided that having cap flexibility is going to remain a high priority and has high value as well. They put more emphasis on this and its value then the value we see in what we think parsons lin and asik are worth, You have to remember as well that morey has been fielding offers on lin asik and parsons for long time. Surely morey has a bit of an idea what they are worth.

Part of the game they are playing is the *opportunity* to be in mix for that 3rd star. That comes at a price to be able to offer bosh that max for the one moment that we could. That has a price people fail to realize. To even be in the conversation you have to have put yourself there.

There are apparently 2 ways to build a team. One the way the spurs did with time and chemistry. The other is to go for superstars the way that the heat won. rockets and les and morey are trying to go superstar and the road will be bumpy to get that 3rd piece.

We messed up on parsons (letting him become fa was stupid) and now we have a chance to right some wrongs with what we do with this cap space & pick from lin and asik trades. Also bird in hand in that we have ariza for 4 years vs. unknown of losing parsons now or in the next year anyway. We are now set with ariza at a lower cost 8 million to boot. Morey also values (rigtht or wrong) having people locked in. parsons was going to be a thorn issue going forward anyway, not locked. Now we can move on and in some ways that is a poison pill for dallas. You me and dupre all know parsons wasnt worth 15 million. Good luck with that there cuban.

Here's why I'm not sweating Les' spending history. You pay luxury tax when you build a great core under the salary cap rules and then (later) pay to keep it together via Bird rights and add MLE players to it to polish its title contention. The NBA rules basically force that except in the very, very odd case of Brooklyn.

Aside from Yao and McGrady there has not been a core that was ready for polishing. The current core was getting there, but you don't go diving into the luxury tax until it's ready, especially with the new luxury tax rules limiting you from doing anything else after you get there.

The fact that paying both Bosh and Parsons was in the blueprints tells me all I need to know about Les' willingness to spend. You pay any price for a Howard-Harden-Bosh-Parsons squad. You don't go careening into the luxury tax for a team that's going to lose in the second round.

"Les and the Rockets really about winning"

Is this real life? You think someone who's become a multimillionaire by way of always winning isn't about winning when owning a professional basketball team?

I think everybody needs to calm down. For God sakes we have the best shooting guard and arguably the best center in the game. Let's all take a step back and try to picture us in say 4th in the west come trade deadline and we acquire none other than Rajon Rondo

Also, I guess teams will never believe Morey again when he says they will match any offer.

You don't judge a player off one series. People around the league made that mistake with Harden with his last series in OKC. Not matching Parsons is another Goran Dragic move. Which translates to Les Alexander. A lot of us knew when they choose Lin over Dragic, it was Les Alexander's doing and that it was a mistake. Time will tell if those of us against not matching Parsons will be proven wrong. All I know it is going to suck seeing Parsons improve on defense under Carlisle and see that potential materialize for them and not for us.

So many consecutive bad moves too, beginning with not replacing coach McHale to now this. :(

I'm really hoping Morey can fix the mistakes both he and Les have made this off-season.

I am definitely a bit disappointed in this FO. I quite frankly don't care that we didn't sign a superstar, what bugs me is all the unnecessary risks they took just to attempt to get a big name. These type of risks are well worth it when you don't have any superstars on your team, but we actually have two on our team. You'd think we would be trying to build a team around them rather than try to chase another big name. It's extremely disappointing.

I been advocating to build a team around James and Howard since we got Dwight here last season. I figured we would put complimentary pieces around them and strive to make a team. Unfortunately our GM and owner are enamored with big names. Unfortunately, they also have our fan base enamored with this bull**** flexibility. We needed flexibility to land Howard/James. I am not advocating to overpay for role players, but I am questioning whether our GM and owner believe that it would be nice to have complimentary pieces around our players.

So we are betting everything on a chance to sign Love, Aldridge, or Durant in the next couple of off seasons??? Love is the only one we know who wants to leave and Cleveland or Golden State will probably end up trading for him. I would not be surprised if Aldridge and Durant stay with their current teams and we will be competing with the Knicks and Lakers for their services if they don't?? We let ourselves get worse next season for a pipe dream that will never happen. SMH!!!! At least we have the "flexibility" to swing and miss and strike out again!!!

If Bosh would not have backed out last minute, then Parsons would have been matched and the luxury tax would have been paid. Simple as that. The plan backfired, so in hindsight, keeping the entire crew together from last season (yes, Lin too) looks much better at the moment. Maybe Asik still gets traded and Rockets do a three team deal and land Alonzo for some D still. Oh well. About to play 2k and do it my way and live in the fantasy until October.
