I agree we should have instead went for depth in bench instead of swinging for the fences. What we did was not the best move but if it had worked there would parades tomorrow for Rockets sponsored by Rockets and Bun B and Slim Thug would be welcoming next years champions. It didn't work. So now Rockets are back to keep building and have the team keep growing with adding the ability to keep our options open. It only made sense to match if Bosh was coming. What Ariza won't make up offensively, he will make up with defense. That's what we need. Ariza will help us win games with his defense.
It is about being able to hit a home run by signing a superstar FA when we always seem to strike out. We thought it would be different with Harden and Howard but this year has shown that it is not. Heck Carmelo and Bosh have now both shunned us twice!!! We are waiting on that third superstar that probably will not sign with us especially given we will be competing with the Lakers and Knicks next year and 2016. Our best bet would have been to resign Parsons and tweak the roster and a better coach wouldn't hurt anything either. Signing Ariza would have been a step in the right direction if we matched CP25 instead we are now worse. Sometimes a team needs to grow together to be all they can be.
You're better than that. Les is not a terrible owner but he's not the best either. He does not care about winning enough to spend a crap load money like Cuban, Buss, or Arison.
Didn't miss it. That's exactly the point. Who did he Spurs pay $15 million to last year? Certainly not their options 3/4. DMs moves now can include building g more of a Spurs lien team with multiple Parsons like players at cheaper prices.
He is absolutely down with spending money, when it makes sense. Spending 15+ million on a player like Chandler is stupid...when that leaves us with Parsons as the 3rd option for three more seasons. When it makes sense, money is spent. Les has been all about winning from day 1.
You don't get what I'm saying. I am find with swinging for the fences but when it fails so badly, you find another way to win. This is no longer a team that keeps growing. Howard has peaked, Ariza has peaked. 2 steps backward.
If you spend money on the product maybe you will look at differently. I'm not saying that my opinion matters more or I have a right to be pissed off any more than the next fan but my season ticket money increase should reflect a better product. If I told you to go buy a new TV this year and then next year I took away some features and upgrades but told you I'm going to charge you 20% more, what would you say. And I keep promising you that the product will get better BUT IT DOESNT!!!!! Maybe thats not a great example but I'm trying to get some of you to understand that spending $5,000 on tickets every year with the same false promises is getting really OLD!!
Howard peaked? That's what everyone said when he left LA. He was the one players last year in the playoffs that was consistent for the Rockets. And Ariza was quite impressive for Washington and leading them to great playoff run.
The thing is, it's not just about getting one via free agency either. we have trade options. Look at it this way. We match Parsons' contract. He has a minor injury and has a down year. If we were to try and trade his contract one of two things would happen, either his trade kicker would kick in, or even worse, teams would see Parsons as going from one of the best contracts in the league to one of the worst. We are stuck with him. The only way we win in a scenario with Parsons is if Parsons actually steps up. Without Parsons, we improve the other number of pathways to improve either via trade, free agency, or organic growth while not being stuck with a locked down deal. It's not about money, it's about cap and mobility. I can't blame Morey for thinking this roster wasn't complete and for not locking it down.
The Rockets didn't announce s**t, you are just going off of what Feigen interpreted. Besides, who is left that you want to give a long term deal to? Bledsoe is the only guy and the Suns will match since they have this thing called cap flexibility.
Then that is where we diverge. Parsons will improve, there is no doubt, but he will not improve to be a viable third option. God forbid he got injured on that deal, we would be stuck. That $9 mil figure wouldn't be enough to net us a real third option either. Trevor Ariza at $8 mil a year for 4 years isn't a hard pill for teams to swallow in trade. Parsons is much more of a risk than you think he is, but hey, you're entitled to your opinion.
Agreed - the most ridiculous thing about is that the Rockets' actual success was with a Big-1 and a Big-2. Of all the teams out there, the Rockets should know better than thinking they need a Big-3. Agreed. Blowing up your lineup every year because you're assuming they've accomplished all they can accomplish is silly. People have bought into fool's gold with what Boston and Miami did and forgot that you can, in fact, tinker at the edges and win a title. The Spurs did it these last few years despite an aging big-3 that no longer functions like a big-3. They didn't need to go buy a superstar or have massive amounts of capspace.
Parsons is already a viable 3rd option, especially on a team where you have one of the top 5 scorers in the league. How many teams have 3 superstars?
Spurs and Heat (last year) come to mind. Look at the Thunder, they have Westbrook and Durant followed by a host of players looking to break out and that still isn't enough for them. It's a 3 superstar league.
Agree!!!! In case Morey and Les haven't noticed the superstars aren't exactly lining up to sign with us. Parsons was a very good and improving third option. I hear people gripe about his defense when we didn't exactly have a defensive minded coach. He was much better his fist year and could be again with a better coach / system.
Lol come on. No he's not. You can't have two perimeter oriented players who play no defense together. McGrady was a MUCH better player than Harden, especially defensively, and guess who the guru JVG (that we are all obsessed with and cry out for in place of McHale) wanted to go out and get. Yeah, that's right, Shane Battier. To largely play the same role that Ariza is being asked to play now.
