Exactly. We took a risk on harden (2 other teams passed) and we took a risk on howard by saving cap and collecting assets to become an attractive destination for him. You have to take risks if you want to build a championship team. You guys just want to keep a team that got bounced out in the first together. Dont worry, we are on pace for that and nothing has changed. Matching parsons means we are locked into that fortune for the next three years.
It cracks me up how people believe that because something didn't work out for their team in a competitive league, it's because of some fatal flaw in that person.
This. It's amazing that how the Spurs managed to keep Parker and Manu underpaid for so many years, and won so many championships.
LOL at anybody thinking Morey did Parsons a favor. He wanted to free up maximum cap space to sign a bigtime FA and grossly miscalculated. He miscalculated Parson's value in the open market and he miscalculated being able to convince Melo or Bosh to sign with Houston. Please stop already all you MOFs.
Any real fan who actually listens before he judges knows it was a huge factor that played into the decision. Parsons asked morey many times to let him out of his contract and morey said he cant, but he knows he deserves more than a second round scale. Well, he finally decided he deserves to get paid. You are too naive to see it. Now take your op and stick it.
There is a balance. I think Morey thought that Dwight and Parsons were a wonderfriends team linked by the recruition and also by their agent. But 46 million for 3 years is a lot of money however you slice it and whoever is handing it out. Even Dwight knows what's up with that $ - the first big money of Parsons' career.
Yeah this totally makes sense since Trevor Ariza, who we dumped a few years ago, was willing to give Houston another chance.
Totally agree. Lowry said the choice between Toronto and Houston was simple, apparently Parsons felt the same way. Plus Bosh and Melo, fans say they all chose money over winning but is this bad coached, no chemistry, first round exit, all assets except two players team really a future winning organization?
That's funny. As others have pointed out the very blunder that has us in this situation was following YOUR playbook. Had we treated Parsons like an asset we would have packaged him. He helped recruit DH so the warm and fuzzies are what got him a max deal.
we were a yes and a rediculous max contract away from having an amazing lineup. its a massive livershot wha just happened but we pick up and keep going.
SF assets are easier to find than C, PF, or PG. Although I liked Parsons, that position is not worth locking down 15mil if you're not a superstar. Ariza will do fine as the third option on this team and guarding the wing. Mourey went for it, no use crying over a gamble lost.
Our whole "asset" culture and reputation is a problem. While the NBA is a business, people don't like being treated as "assets." Teams that have a strong culture end up with guys willing to play for less and there is a great loyalty and team dynamic.
I'm willing to put money on the fact that in a couple of years, philly will be better than us. They know FA's won't sign there, like they won't sign here, so they tanked. They will suck again this year and get another great player in the draft. They will be like okc in a couple if years. We wil be back to competing for 8th seeds and picking 14th.
He took the best deal he could get. It was about the money. Not giving us a 2nd chance. I bet he's traded before the contract is up too.
