So much unjustified flaming of Morey that I think these reminders need their own thread:

    1) Morey used the same-style pitch on Anthony and Bosh that worked brilliantly with Howard just a year ago. Both chose to stay with their existing teams because of money and family - not much you can do about that.

    2) Though he can never admit it, it's pretty clear Morey had to release Parsons from his contract a year early as part of a "wink wink" to help curry favor in the Howard sweepstakes. Almost any GM would do the same to land the best Center in the league.

    3) He showed tremendous discipline in not matching Parsons' max contract (one that was loaded with ridiculous restrictions to boot). When you can get a Trevor Ariza for half the price you have no need for Parsons. Ariza has similar offensive production, better defensive ability, and a killer three point shot (40+%). Plus he's coming off of the best year in his career. All things considered we're replacing Parsons at the right time.

    4) We finally got rid of Lin after a year of looking all around the league for takers. Lin was a back-up point guard who wasn't happy with his role. This was no easy task but thankfully it's over. His production can easily be replaced for a fraction of the cost.

    5) Morey traded a disgruntled back-up Center for a high-potential future first round draft pick. Any further commentary necessary on this one?

In Summary, all of Morey's moves that have been emotionally criticized were logical and justified. We now have plenty of cash available to add much-needed depth. No - it won't happen overnight, but if Morey's history is any guide it will happen soon enough. Hopefully the fans appreciate this eventually.

P.S. The ultimate judge will be if we get out of the 1st round this year. I for one think we will.

Morey bones our roster and then says we aren't a championship team and we have no plans this year to become one.

    Awesome GM guys

    Struck out on Melo.
    Struck out on Bosh.
    Lost Parsons to freaking Dallas.

And in return we get Trevor Ariza.

Excuse me for being a little upset at this offseason.

Dwight came here to win a championship. I feel without Parsons and company he might just try to escape Houston.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Did it really work on Howard? Or did the Kobe make him leave?

It's not all that bad really. We have 11m to spend to replace Asik and Lin's production. The starting 5 are better (we needed a wing defender more than Chandler's offensive contributions).

We were 4th seed last year with a no chemistry team, a somewhat injured/recovering howard for the first part of the season, and a failed twin towers experiment followed by no Asik for 30 games.

I like Morey but think about the moves (landing Dwight was all CP and Harden don't give too much credit to Daryl) we have made since Hinkie left. Hint: They haven't been good.

Low F for Morey right now. Going to take a lot of As to get this offseason up to a D.

lin, asik and parsons were supposed to be huge trading pieces to get a 3rd star or a buncha good players to compliment dwight and harden. they're all gone for almost nothing. and we had to give up a few picks to get rid of them.

i never thought he was a top 5 gm but he's still a good one. we'll see what happens this week

I'm still being patient. We almost had a top starting NBA roster if we had Bosh and matched Parsons. Parsons was severely overpaid and losing Bosh caused a severe ripple since Morey gambled so much.

The only thing left to do is get a few players on good, short contracts that could be used to have another go at it next time. Luckily, this time we have Harden and Howard to shuffle the roster around.

We have one of the top, if not top, "farm systems" in the Valley that is quite good at producing inexpensive role and bench players that make the jump to NBA level.

It sucks, it blew up in our face this offseason, but Morey's track record of shuffle the roster and picking up decent talent is good. Hopefully we will only take a minor step backwards.

Exactly. It's not like they closed the deal with Howard in the actual meeting. He still had to debate over being with Kobe, whom he probably hated, and of course the money verses Houston.

We were really lucky that he didn't like Kobe and probably D'Antoni. If he really had to promise to let Parsons out of his contract early as a deal to Fegan for getting Dwight, then who sold who?

they just folded for next season saying they dont think we'd be a championship team, so you can see the irony of the optimism. I don't know what sort of front office says crap like that when you have two players that are the best at their position. His tenure as a GM will be a failure, as I've always said.

If it comes to that, hopefully we can parlay that into something good in return. Doubtful we get an even trade, but I don't see that opportunity being wasted.

McHale deters guys like Love and possibly Bosh because they know how inept he is as a coach. How do you defend Morey for that?
