This. I have no dog in this fight, but that was a beautiful goal. Um, but why was the clock still running when that dude from Germany was down (when Messi was attempting his FK)? I don't watch soccer at all, so I just thought it was weird. No one was complaining to the refs either, so I guess this is a regular thing?
LOL! Messi best player of the tournament? Complete joke. Not even the best player on the team (Mascherano). Robben and Rodriguez were better, easily. Or a German player.
I never watched Maradona. Too young for that. I've watched Zidane. I've watched Ronaldo. I've watched Ronaldinho. I've watched Cristiano. I've watched Xavi. Messi is better than all of them. It's unfortunate he hasn't won a World Cup, or performed at his highest level. Hopefully he gets a chance to do that again in 2018. But the World Cup is every 4 years. It's hard to judge a player solely on that esp when he dominates everything else football has to offer.
That's BS. Should've gone to James, without question. The kid was a game changer throughout -- especially in the elimination rounds. Six goals + 2 assists. All time World Cup record (single tournament).
You have not even watched Maradona and yet you are ready to proclaim Messi the best ever? As usual, you are arguing for the sake of argument and not making sense. That makes it even worse then to serve up complete duds in semis and finals of the WC. You can keep saying that to yourself but it wont make it true. Messi can have the Golden ball award and add another personal award to his trophy list. Did not even deserve it after two bad games in a row. As for the WC comes every 4 years excuse..... Zidane beat Brazil in the final with individual performance. 4 years later he gets injured and what does France do? Could not even score a goal in the group stages and were out. 4 years later Zidane is back and he controls the match against Brazil in the Semis which had some talented players of their own. After the game Ronaldino and Brazil conceded that Zidane was everywhere and simply outclassed them in the midfield. Penaly kicks away from two WC trophies. Zindane also won Euro Championship. You have never watched Maradona. Maradona used to control the field and tempo of the play in the midfield. Messi does not control the game the way Maradona used to. Everyone was saying that Argentina would fail because of no defense. Argentina's defense was brilliant during knock out stages. Ironically it was their offense that let them down. And Messi is largely to blame.
Personally, I would've given it to Robben. If you asked Messi, I'm sure he'd say he didn't deserve it.
It's a tournament that comes every 4 years. Great players have quiet games here and there. Football isn't the Olympics where players are judged solely on that. You are aware football has other games besides the World Cup right?
messi >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> maradona but in argentina, that coke head will still be their god
The Argentinian defense deserves credit, if it weren't for the likes of Mr.Baldee, Rojo, Perez and the likes, the team wouldn't have even sniffed the finals.
And that's expected. Argentina cares for the World Cup more than his Barca's accomplishments. But it's sad people who don't follow club football only judge Messi by the World Cup. Hopefully Messi gets some time off and resume his peak play. His stamina hadn't been good all year since he returned from injury. He's still only 31 by 2018. One more chance.
Put Messi on a dud Napoli team which Maradona carried and then we can see how good Messi would be. It is nice to let Xavi and Iniesta control the midfield and feed you passes.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Mr. Space City again Both are two of the greatest players ever and unlike t_mac 1, I won't say Messi is better than Ronaldo, Dinho or Zidane but it slays me the criticism he receives. His career isnt over yet, odds are he will be there in 2018. Even if he never wins the WC, he is still up there with the coke addict/cheater imo in terms of impact on the game and brilliance on the pitch.
