I think he is a 12million player but I think keeping him should be our priority. We got away with not paying him anything and I think the extra 3million we didn't expect to pay is a type of reinburstment after all he's done his 3 seasons haha Other then that Ariza is 30 and leaving his prime. The rockets surely can't count on him to play a full hard season and the playoffs without a back up SF which we don't have. Ariza will come off the bench for his 3s and D while parsons will move to a stretch 4
Closer to $8-10 million, maybe $11 mil. If they match: $14,700,000 | $15,361,500 | $16,023,000(player option) So yes, he'll be overpaid. On the flip side, you're gonna let him walk for free? On the flip side to thatgrin, if you wanted to move him, could you move him or would you have to attach something with him? Then you have the whole trade kicker thing and he essentially has a one-year no-trade clause. And that second year may turn into the final year of his deal. Edit: But I keep forgetting that the cap is likely(?) or supposed to rise so maybe it's not so bad after all?
I think he is worth it. No Homo If he were the 2nd option on the team he averages between 17.5-21.5ppg.
Ariza put up better scoring and shooting numbers against the Western Conference this year, but okay...
He's worth that much. He's worth whatever the market says he's worth. At this point guys like Batum and Lowry are steals for their value. The salary cap isn't this static thing that stays at one level. It's dynamic and ever revolving. You have to factor that in while gauging if a contract is with it or not.
We have a soon to be 29 year old superstar center and a team that won 54 games last season. The window to win it all is small but the team is so close when it comes to talent. Les and Morey need to go all in now, not next year or the year after. They start by re-signing Parsons at this inflated but not ridiculous price and show Dwight and Harden that it's time to go get the Championship.
Exactly...the cap rise is another reason why i don't mind taking on this overvalued contract..I just feel at the end of the day, Morey won't let the chemistry that Parsons has with D12 and Harden walk for free
Exactly, we have no one to replace him with and we're trying to contend for a championship, you can't downgrade your roster if you want to have a legit shot. Before I hear people talking about Ariza, 1. He's a clear downgrade on the court. 2. He's never been durable enough to count on. 3. You shouldn't be fooled by the best season of his career in a contract year. Since we can't replace him, we have to keep him.
No, he's not worth this much. But the price to get better is higher when you have solid production coming from the SF spot. Would pay this much, because the cap exception is not significant enough to make a bigger play. Parsons has improved each year. I think we match on the merit that he will get better and contribute mightily.
Parsons is very good...but the question is, if you need him to be, can he be your team's best player? Very unlikely.
You have to look at the big picture, folks. No, Parsons is not worth over 15 mil a season. But if you don't match that offer, you have a worse team than last year which significantly increases the likelihood of Dwight bolting after 2 more seasons, and meanwhile Dallas(despite overpaying Parsons) will be a much better team and arguably superior to the Rockets. So look at it as paying Parsons over 15 mil a year so you can contend this season and and next which means Dwight might stick around after 2016. I much prefer that scenario than to letting Parsons walk, winning around 50-53 games next year, and flaming out in the first round again.
In a vacuum, no, not worth that much. To us, who have a limited window, the overpaid portion of his contract is not going to matter very much. It is not going to prevent us from doing anything. The only thing that is up in the air right now is that third year player option which could potentially take us out of the Durant sweepstakes, but I think it will all work out. My prediction is we will match, and it will be the right move.
