Can someone comment on how all this might impact Sergio Llull? Now that Lin is gone, I can't imagine a better time to have him on the roster.
Not sure where the Pelicans deal stands or will stand, but I would be pretty happy with getting Ajinca or Withey, plus the pick back for Asik and Covington. That still gives us a TPE of at least $8.2M, which would be enough for a guy like Ilyasova.
If the Rockets match Parsons (they should) will they still recieve the MLE? If not would the Asik trade being finalized do it?
I've been thinking about this as well - but isn't Lull more of a SG? If so, there won't be many minutes left. If we match Parsons and s&t for Ariza, we should have the MLE for Lull. Should be enough I guess, I don't know about his buyout numbers. Of course it only makes sense, if he is willing to play backup PG. And as far as I know, he isn't too keen to come over...
It all depends on how they sign Ariza. If they use cap space to sign Ariza then they will have to renounce their JLinTrade Exception, Their MLE and the Bi-Annual Exception. If they work out a S&T with Washington then they will still have their full MLE.
Good analysis. These are the holes still left on our team: 1) Playmaking guard 2) Sharp shooter 3) Stretch 4 4) Defensive big Right now we have a 2 man guard rotation (Bev and Harden), 2 man forward rotation (Parsons and Ariza) and 2 man big rotation (Howard and TJones). I'd like to see us at: 4 Guards 2 Forwards 4 Bigs It will be very interesting to see what direction we go for the playmaking guard. I think Sergio Llull is a great fit, but does he want to come over here? It appears that Mirotic is coming to the NBA, so does Llull really thing Real Madrid can compete at the same level? Let's say he does leave. I think he will cost us $4 million or so (MLE) Daniels is our best option as a sharpshooting guard. Sign him to a 4 year deal with the remaining MLE ($1.3 million). Stretch 4.....this one I'm not sure on. I don't like guys like Ilyasova or Ryan Anderson because we could always just roll out Parsons and Ariza for small ball and it not change much on the defensive end. I really like Jason Smith, but he's got a significant injury. No long term money. $2.7 million over 2 years (full BAE) I love how Taj Gibson would fit with this team. If Chicago wants to sign both Gasol and Mirotic, they have to unload both Boozer and Gibson. I'd offer the Lin TPE, NOP 2015 1st, and Papanikolaou to them. Beverley / Llull Harden / Daniels Parsons / Ariza Gibson / TJones Howard / Smith
We have sharpshooters in Daniels & Ariza. We need a defensive backup behind Dwight. Birdman is a great suggestion. We need a more physical backup 4 man, and an aggressive offensive backup to Bev. Can Canaan do that? I see us going like this Dwight-34/Defensive C-14 Parsons-28/Defensive pF-20 Ariza-32/Parsons-6/Harden-10 Harden-30/Daniels-18 Bev-28/Canaan-20
Really would like too see a Houston, Chicago, NOLA 3 team deal Asik to NOLA Gibson to Houston NOLA pick to Chicago
If you've caught any Summer League games yet and seen Nick Johnson play, I'd say he's a similar player as far as build goes, size, and skill set. However Llull is probably a better shooter at this point from 3, but not quite as athletic (although he is sneaky athletic). In the Rox system, he could definitely play the off guard (PG) next to Harden. If Harden isn't in the game, he's perfectly capable of bringing the ball up, and getting the Rockets into their sets. One of the things Morey has to love about him is his ability in the open court. The guy runs the court HARD & can finish on the break.... almost Dragic like. Trust me... he's a Moreyball special. I predict that if the Rockets bring him over he'll instantly be a fan favorite much like Johnson is becoming because the guy is just a super competitor, and get all "Beverley-Like" on defense when he's motivated. He'd fit in well, but the issue is at the cost it would take the Rockets to bring him over, Morey is surveying the landscape and seeing that they can probably get similar production with what they already have & save the MLE, & cap (for about 8 more hours mind you) for more pressing needs. I see him coming over next year unless Pat Bev, Canaan, or Johnson emerge this year as a cornerstone piece that guarantees Llull would be a backup. I think Llull want to see that there is an opening for him to be a real key player & not just a backup to potentially the backup.
Question if Housotn is reworking this trade why are they doing it for Ryan Anderson and not Jrue Holiday? Salary wise about the same the can keep Austin River and Brian Roberts and take Isaiah Canaan. While its a tough sell than Ryan Anderson, witht the return of their first round pick this could also be pretty realistic.
A good backup for Dwight is also my biggest concern right now. My second is the backup PG. I LOVEEEEEEEE Nick Johnson and think he will easily beat out Canaan, but are his handles good enough to really play PG, or is he a small SG? I prefer to have AB still over Canaan right now also because of the experience and price value probably. All assuming that we match Parsons of course.
