Parsons has better stats and has been in the league 7 years less than Ariza. He is also a very important guy for our locker room. And he is a better passer, pump faker (;)) and he is better at driving to the basket. The truth is, his "value" is probably somewhere around 12 million a year - maybe a little less, maybe a little more if he improves his defense. We are overpaying him by about 3 million a year. We are operating over the cap, so that doesn't hurt us too much.

We are going for a championship - we need to add quality to our core, not replace core players with worse guys that make less money. Ariza is a great signing as a 3 and d guy of the bench to allow us not to play Harden and Parsons 40 minutes a night. He is a subpar replacement for Parsons.

It's not like we could use his 15 million to sign Bledsoe or some other impact players. We would have around 10 million and no impact UFA are left. And it's not like we'd be handcuffed after signing Parsons - we'd probably still have our MLE, the bi annual exception and TEs.

I don't want to start a new thread for this but my question is, wouldn't parsons opt out be the summer of durant?

It's possible but it's also possible that we trade him later in the year.

Hopefully he opts out then (if we still have him) to try and pry Durant. Maybe Dwight will take a paycut for us then too.

Not until 10:59 will Morey say if he was matching. No reason to help Dallas with early decision either way.

Yep. Punish the mavs as long as possible and hope more of their potential replacements sign elsewhere should Morey decide to match.

If that's the case, I don't see the problem with matching him, it just all depends on les and his wallet.

If parsons was such a team player and good for the locker room he would not have signed the offer sheet with Cuban. Think about that. Does he want to win a title in houston? Not too much. He screwed this organization. Do I blame him for taking the money, not really, most people would. Howard came here for less money to win. I respect that. I lost respect for cp though. I don't care if they match or not. He doesn't really want to be here. His heart is not about being a rocket.

CP knew that Rockets would match regardless.

He was smart to sign the offer sheet. He gets to have his cake and eat it too.

Locker room and glue thing way overrated. Only 1 starter coming back from 2 years ago, 2 if parsons is resigned. Everybody else including the majority of the bench "assets" had turned over. What are we trying to glue?

Parsons is about equivalent to Ariza. Give him a hometown premium and he's still way overpaid. You are paying max money, don't match and wait for a real max money guy. Ain't a popularity contest.

Everyone thinks Cuban played Morey but it was the other way around. Both Parsons and Howard will opt out opening up full max contract for Durant. Then we'll resign both So it'll be:

    Howard
    Durant
    Parsons
    Harden
    ????

He didn't screw the Rockets organization. Did Cuban offer him an excessive contract given his numbers and play? Sure, but he would have been a fool not to sign it from a business perspective. He was underpaid for years as a Rocket given his numbers. You can't compare him and Dwight because Dwight made a significant amount of money in his career before signing in Houston. Up until this point, Parsons hasn't made anything comparatively. I think this is more about Les and if HE doesn't open up his wallet to better the team, HIS heart is not truly interested in making the rockets a better franchise.

The man played for a minimum salary for 3 years lol he went out and got what the market gave him. He never complained about his salary or caused problems or any of that nonsense. Underpaid to overpaid, it evens out to what he's worth, about 8 mil a year.

Even if they opt out, we'd have to renounce their bird rights to get any cap space at all.

We could also just kick Parsons out by that point, unbeknownst to him :p.

    Howard
    Harden
    Durant
    Ariza
    ?????

He played for market value of a second round pick. No reason to overpay now. Stop being a cpof. He hurts us going forward. He was valuable because he made so little. He is a liability if he is paid more than he is worth.
