Regarding Les' money, people seem to forget that by dumping Lin and Asik, he's gotten out of paying nearly $30m!

    Parsons is no Scottie Pippen.

Morey would not have bothered with Ariza and would have matched Pippen, who was a true star.

Nobody on this board is worrying about Les' money. That is his worry.
Having 25% of team salary cap tied up for the next 2 (or more) years on Parsons is a concern.

For the record, I'd still match it if I were Morey. I think it's the lesser of two bad choices. However it was a bad decision to decline his player option in the first place. That is the point.

Why do you care whether the Rockets salary is at 100% of salary cap, 110% of salary cap, or 120% of salary cap? Do you really like Les' to keep his money that much?

Is your logic for not matching Parsons, "I don't want Les to spend $75mil on this roster when he can spend $65mil instead in a league where $63mil is the salary cap?"

Like I said, the number of fans who want to save Les money is astonishing. Especially when he just made $40mil last year. He ain't going broke making $30mil instead of $40mil.

Rockets made 40 million just in profits last year.

Just use that to pay Parsons.

Man, Les is seeing his personal worth go up in huge amounts every year and yet we are so afraid of him spending a few million here and there.

Are you guys paying Parsons' wages? hahahahaha

The problem is not Les' money, it's how tying up Parsons would make us potentially lose our flexibility in the future. That is doubtful though since no big FA is coming here in the next few years unless it's through S&T.

Although the numbers haven't been released, we actually received cash in the Lin trade

Scottie pippen is an all time great, parsons is a role player. It's like paying Ariza max money. Clutchfans would implode if that happens. Yet, for about the same stats, parsons deserves max money. Go figure. Pretty boy ain't worth the money.

    Flexibility for what?

Even if we assume Parsons' contract is untradable, which I disagree personally but who cares. Let's suppose he is 100% untradable. From a Flexibility standpoint,

$15 of untradable contract = $0 of very tradable non-contract.

Yup. And Les saved $14mil ACTUAL dollars vs. cap hit from Lin and Asik.

He isn't worth it but has more to offer than Ariza. Ariza is a defender who can dunk and a streaky shooter. Perfect for the bench at the age of 31.

Very minimal, though. New Orleans is getting $1.5 million in the Asik trade, and I haven't heard of any going to LA for Lin (though the maximum would be $1.5 million, since we only get $3 per fiscal year). He's definitely saving a ton of money by dumping them.

15M might be worth it if Parsons actually played better defense than he has these past 2 years. Ugh.

Pippen was a lottery pick, but wasn't a starter until the playoffs his rookie season.
His first all-star season was his 3rd year.
Parsons isn't there yet, but he's got potential.
    Generally speaking, of course.
I'm not trying to compare any one part of Pippen's game, especially defense.
Morey didn't sign Ariza to be Parsons replacement, you can expect CP to be matched now more than ever.

Are there any updates on whether we are matching or not?

No Ariza should start. He got better defense, shoots 3s at 40% plus and fits the team like a glove. Parsons stats are inflated due to run and gun system. Ariza is the better fit and better player. Even if he isn't, he's a lot cheaper. Use the rest of the money and get a quality backup center and starting pg. neither of which has yet to be addressed.
