How long does it usually take to send the paperwork to match an offer? I know the ideal situation would be to tell da leeg "yo, we matchin the offer to the homie chandler parsons, what up" at exactly 10:59pm cst but I remember a couple seasons ago the pacers and the grizzlies agreed to a trade revolving around OJ Mayo, sent it to the league but it didn't count since it was too late after the deadline.

I don't want to risk that, ya know? If I'm Morey and it takes usually like an hour to legalize all the paperwork and what not I'll send it at 8pm. That gives the league 3 full hours to get it all done.

but if it literally takes a minute I'm all for 10:59pm.

I think he's said enough to prove himself...but it sounds like maybe he works in scouting, so it wouldn't surprise me to know he doesn't know everything about the financial side of the league.

And if the team really values this site, tell them to reach out some and not just through insiders. An AMA like on Reddit a few times a year wouldn't kill them. Maybe they secretly follow us, but it sure feels like they want nothing to do with us at times.

Maury is taking notes on ClutchFans while an intern is dialing up other GM's.

Maury: Okay, call Milwaukee. Tell them Lull, Covington, 2nd rounder top 59 protected for Ilyasova. And order more pizza.

Intern: They told me to tell you to eff off.

Maury: Hmm, okay tell them Lull, Covington, and 2nd rounder only top 58 protected.

Morey is playing chess while these other gms are playing checkers!

Don't remember who dropped that gem but it was hilarious then and it is hilarious now.

No they have not. I think the next move that will be announced will be the official signing of the Ariza contract and how that will go down.

    1. Renounce the Jeremy Lin Trade Exception and the Mid Level Exception and the Bi-Annual Exception(falling below the salary cap) and then signing Ariza using cap space.

    or

    2. Work out a sign & trade with Washington for Ariza. This would give the Wizards an 8.6 mil Traded Player Exception and some sort of draft pick, for doing nothing. It would allow the Rockets to keep their MLE & Bi-Annuel Exception.

Once that is done then maybe if there is another free agent on their radar we will here about it. Maybe nothing until after CP25 is matched.

I think with Ariza signing, the Rockets theoretically don't have to be in a hurry to make their next move. They can just S&T for Ariza, match Parsons, and take it slow from there.

I mean, they still have to work in the sense that there are still free agents to be gotten. If the Jeremy Lin trade hasn't been finalized, that can be still used in some sort of a 3-way S&T. But Parsons' contract will no longer be an issue.

Denzel says something similar in Training Day, but you might be thinking of former KC Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.

That a trade/signing happens today. I predict with 100% accuracy that the rockets will match or let Parsons walk by 11:59 Eastern time

That might of been me. I mentioned it in reference to matching Parsons and trolling the Mav fan like Cuban did with that video signing at the club.

Here is the scene. Find a cowboy doll to represent Dallas. Start with a shot of the cowboy doll next to a chess board then pan to the other side a hand make a move and says "check mate" pans further and it's Morey smiling at the camera. Dance music starts and Les and Parsons appear "go Rockets".

End scene. 15 seconds at most. Might make sports center.

Sorry for the duplicate post (I posted this in another thread but thought it might be more appropriate here afterwards). I'm looking for some clarity on this with regard to the timing of the Asik trade.

I'm reading that if we opt to trade Asik after matching parsons at 11pm (thereby creating a TE instead of cap space) the TE can't be combined with any other player to trade for one other player making more than $100,000 above the TE (in asiks case $8.5M).

    From cbafaq.com

The Traded Player exception is the primary means by which teams over the cap complete trades. It allows teams to make trades that leave them over the cap, but it places several restrictions on those trades. Trades using the Traded Player exception fall into two categories: simultaneous and non-simultaneous. As its name suggests, a simultaneous trade takes place all at once. Teams can trade players together and acquire considerably more salary than they trade away in a simultaneous trade. Simultaneous trades are described in question number 84. A non-simultaneous trade may take up to a year to complete, but the team can only trade away one player, and its team salary can increase by no more than $100,000 as a result of the trade. Non-simultaneous trades are described in question number 85.

    In short:

    - A simultaneous trade gives the team more money but less time

    - A non-simultaneous trade gives the team more time but less money

I believe trading Asik would constitute a non-simultaneous trade and therefore we can't combine the TE with other players to increase the amount of salary we'd receive.

    More from cbafaq.com

    85. What is a non-simultaneous trade?

In some cases, teams have up to one year to acquire the replacement player(s) to complete a trade. These trades are considered non-simultaneous. In a non-simultaneous trade, a team can acquire only up to 100% plus $100,000 of the outgoing salary1 (as opposed to a higher amount in a simultaneous trade). A trade in which salaries are aggregated (see question number 84) cannot be non-simultaneous.

Teams cannot combine trade exceptions with other exceptions (such as the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level exception or a taxpaying team's 125% plus $100,000 margin from another simultaneous trade) in order to trade for a more expensive player. For example, a taxpaying team with a $1 million trade exception cannot combine it with their $2 million player to trade for a $3 million player (see question number 88 for more information on combining exceptions).

If that's the case we're limited to using asiks TE to trade for players whose contracts are $8.5M and under.

Therefore if we want to trade for a player like milsap, rondo, smith, love ( anyone over $8.5M) then it has to be done now before 11pm, we'd have to trade for them using other contracts (ariza + other contracts), or we kill the trade and hold onto asiks to use as a trade piece later when a deal comes up.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you are right - you can't combine TEs with players, I forgot about that before. I thought you could still do the 150%, but it appears that's not true either. So Asiks TE wouldn't allow for more than 8.4 million I guess. That sucks, since it's not enough for Millsap or Thaddeus Young - or to pair it to get Rondo or Love.

So maybe we'll see a complicated move with Asik after all...

But I don't think it has to happen today. We can easily match Parsons today and trade Asik tomorrow - it just has to be a 3 team trade and we can take back 150% of the outgoing salary...

I agree, I was worried we were under the gun to get something done before 11pm. But I think we'll just see a S&T with the wizards today for ariza and parsons matched. Morey will most likely deal Asik later in a three team deal that makes sense. I'm just happy he has time to work a deal.
