This is what I was trying to tell you..chase the stars and if you miss the role players will be there..obvious strategy

For people who are comparing Ariza to the last time he was here, this time we actually have players (howard and harden) who will make his life a whole lot easier.

About Durant to Washington, hey I'm all for it. Send him to the east

Getting Ariza for 4 year 32 million is a good deal, especially in this market, but I also think it wont be a good signing in terms of improving or elevating the team with or without Parsons.

The Rockets are not getting Ariza's career, nor are they likely to get 2013-14 Ariza where he had a career year. He shot 45% from the field after four consecutive years of 41% 41% 39% 39%. His 3 pt % was 40% for the first time in his 12 year career, after posting mostly avg % the previous 4 years at 36%, 33%, 30%, 33%.

Its possible Ariza figured out something in his 11th season and at 29th years old and that last year is representative of his new talent level, going forward the next 3-4 years. IMO it seems more likely that Ariza's performance in 2013-2014 much like the 08-09 playoffs, was an aberration an outlier and that a regression is likely if not inevitable.

In the end the Rockets got a good value, considering the market, but IMO they bought a mirage.

Durant is from DC so it makes sense to go after him.

actually, we could match parsons, and then work a sign and trade. according to bima, it would be best to make the sign and trade and the asik trade all 1 3 team trade to keep our MLE and BAE and keep our trade exceptions

I agree I thought Ariza was getting his shot at being the go-to guy. Maybe the stats difference reflects Adelman's different idea? Still trying to figure out how much we paid him back them.

I don't think so. We got Ariza more for his defense than anything else, in my opinion, and since you brought up win shares, how about comparing last season's defensive win shares? Lin's DWS = 1.6 and Ariza's DWS = 3.7. Total DWS for the last 3 seasons, Lin's season with New York, and his 2 seasons with Houston = 5.5 DWS compared to Ariza's total DWS for the last 3 seasons of 7.8 DWS. He's a far better defender than Jeremy is, and that isn't taking into account that he's a 2/3 and Lin is a 1/2. We have an excellent defender at the one in Beverley. Parsons did a good job defending his rookie year, but we've struggled defensively at that spot since then. Ariza can also play at the 2 when we have Harden off the court, or we can have Harden play the 1 and Ariza play the 2. More options, more length, better defense.

Didn't Ariza drop like 40 on us last year lol? I think it was the home game where Harden got the ridiculously easy game winning layup.

I'm ok with bringing back Ariza. Rockets were always able to identify good role players. Only problem back then was we had no superstars for the role players to support.

Now that H and H are here, yes, bring back some of our former Rockets.

Maybe the icing could be asking Shane to be our defensive coach?

The prognosticators in this thread seem to be pretty evenly divided on matching Parsons.

I think the statement about Morey being intrigued by Parsons playing time at the 4 means they are leaning toward matching.

What I remember is how "out of the blue" Parsons seemed to play his rookie year. So many were saying, "Where did this guy come from?? I've only been able to watch limited games with the CSN debacle, but all the "coach" announcers praised the fact that he does so many "little" things, and so often just when needed to alter game trends. I remember in that rookie preseason, people saw a player playing with more maturity and BB sense than his age, or many peers.

He's a glue guy and has to be valued a such. No one expected the price for his services to go quite so high, but then Mark Cuban operates out of emotion as much as logic. At this point, I think he's worth more to the Rockets than the Mavs.

The Ariza signing isn't as pertinent to whether the Rockets match Parson's offer as much as it is to what is it's value IF Parson also returns. I think there is a synergy there where maybe the sum of the parts is greater than the whole... or whatever they say. ALL players makes mistakes -- sometimes at crucial moments of games. On average, I think Parson will win more games for you than lose.

Those in the know don't seem to think matching precludes adding another piece or two to the puzzle.

Everyone was so focused on hitting a "home run" like Bosh or Anthony, during the off-season -- that isn't necessary. Obviously, the Rockets went for the fence but the team was second only to the Clippers in offense last season. Would they have been lower without Lin's contribution? I don't know. Haven't looked at the stats. Asik missed a lot of the season and the defensive ranking might have been better if he had been available. And defense DEFINITELY wins championships. But without offense you can struggle mightily.

Let's see what happens. I'm hoping and betting they match the offer to Parsons. A few plays difference in the Portland series and the Rockets might have faced the Spurs. That was a better match-up for the Rockets, I think. IMO, the future is still very bright for the Rockets.

I hope Morey is able to swing a deal (even after deciding on Parsons) for a back-up big. We need another big body or DMo and Jones will be toast.

Why not? Play at home alongside Wall and Beal. Not the worst situation to be in. In 2 years, I could definitely see that being better than re-upping with Westbrook (assuming he's still there) and Ibaka - especially if they haven't won anything by then.

Such minimal changes can have great results... if you have good coaching... which we don't...

I think Ariza feeds off superstars.... If we re-up with Parsons after adding another piece... we could see a new Ariza....

Yeah...time to tank so that, two years from now, you can have a 25% shot at a superstar.

Ariza did best next to Kobe; well now, he'll have the next best SG in the NBA to play off of. Great fit I feel. Harden Parsons and Ariza can each play 30-35 minutes as Harden gets 2-5mpg at the PG spot and Parsons and Ariza can combine for 5-10mpg at PF.
