Great pick up for the rockets. I know people are going to hate but I hope we don't resign parsons, hes a good player but I just cant see the rockets paying him that much money even if its only a three contract ;)

Ariza was third in minutes played and shots taken, behind Brooks and Scola. Kevin Martin only played 24 games. Anyone know where Ariza's contract ranked on the Rockets that season?

Did you read the part where I said "it's a reason some players get cheap contract"...???

I wasn't taking a shot at Clutch. If anything, I was taking a shot at Morey.

Last year, we got two starting centers, two backup PFs, and two backup PGs. That's three positions with two guys deserving to start. It created so much unnecessary bitterness among the players, some public, some not so public.

Now if he's matching Parsons, it's going to have the same situation again at the SF position.

So? Are we seeing Paul George in the Western Conference playoffs?

We needed a backup 2/3 to rest Parsons/Harden and that's what Ariza is good for. We still have holes but Harden shouldn't have to average nearly 40 mins a game anymore.

    1. I thought we agreed with the Pelicans. Didn't think we could just back out. Still don't.

    2. Only $5 huh? Since we were offering Bosh over 18 and Ariza only gets what, $8.6 - I figured we had close to $10 to play with (assuming Asik was gone).

    3. I'm aware of the Pelicans situation and Monday. So again, how would we have signed Bosh & matched Parsons if we couldn't dump Asik's salary until after Monday? It would be impossible. Meaning we never intended to match Parsons because we would wait until Monday to sign Bosh. I'm sure there's a way around it all, probably a way to move Asik faster. Which is why I prefer to move Asik before Parsons. I must be missing something.

Solid signing, we needed a defensive wing who hits threes in the worst way. Ariza gives us flexibility to defend problem players like durant, lebron, melo plus hes a plus offensive player.

Resign parsons, and use whatever exceptions we have to sign a quality big man and we are a better team than last year.

Sign one more guy and then parsons. DEPTH DEPTH DEPTH!

I really like this signing regardless of whether we match or not. Ariza is a typical Morey guy, buy low/sell high and we still have room for one more significant contributor considering the 8 million per contract.

Now we have a former NBA champion on the team, but we still lack a PG that can create and any midrange shooting to speak of. I hope player two that we sign can defend and hit a 15 footer with his eyes closed. I know there are players like that to be had.

That one more guy may just be Troy Daniels. If I am thinking right, he doesn't have bird rights so we can't go over the cap to either match a RFA offer he gets or to offer him what he wants. Since we have about 5 to play with he may go in that spot so we don't have to use any of our MLE or BAE on him.

Once that is done then we match CP25 and begin working with our over the cap money.

    1. I am not sure if there was a final agreement, since NOLA would need to clear salary first. I guess there is still some wiggle room (but maybe not too much)

    2. I don't know the exact numbers, but to clear space for Bosh, we'd have to cut every player but Harden, Beverly and Howard. So no TJones, DMo, Covington... With us not getting Bosh, we won't cut these guys, so we have significantly less money.

    3. If push came to shove, they would've been able to trade Asik before. Maybe the Pelicans would've preferred it another way, but there definetly was a possiblity. If we move Asik before Parsons, we can use the capspace. If we move Asik after Parsons we should get a TE, right?

Don't this would motivate Ariza to play hard lol, but that would be the coaches job to inspire their players.

Good reminder on 2. Forgot about that. I didn't think it was $5mil worth in extra space though. I'm still fine dumping DMO :)

So many scenarios lately. Hard to keep up with. I'm not sure about the Asik TE but I know we can 3-way him out and get use out of Lin's TE + MLE.

Compare it yourself +/- eval Lin is actually better than Ariza - which is a really sad fact considering how underwhelmed many of us were with Lin. Career DRTG and ORTG are the same for lin and ariza, Lin's TS% is .549 versus .524 for ariza, PER lin 15.5, Ariza 14. Both of their playoff win shares are abysmal (lin is actually negative -.02 and Ariza is .134 (and a lot of minutes too), WS/48 (equalized) regular season Lin .106 / Ariza laughable .096. I don't see how this equates to us becoming 'better'. This forum will be *screaming to get rid of Ariza very rapidly...
