Not worth it for 15mil, he'd easily get pushed off defensively and doesn't have the physicality. As a 3 he might be worth 15 but definitely not as a 4.
Not really, watch for the Asik to the Pelicans deal expand into a deal to get us a PF. Whether it be Anderson, or possibly Young or Ilyasova. It also doesn't have to be a 3 way trade. We can complete the Asik for Gee, Ely, Babbitt, Withey and 2015 first trade. Then package Gee, Ely, Babbitt, Powell, Casspi and Covington are all together (all not guaranteed contracts), along with a pick, possibly Motiejunas for Young or Ilyasova. While doing this we could keep Withey to be our backup center. Now Josh Smith is also a option, we could package the expiring contracts, along with Jones, Canaan and Motiejunas for Smith in a separate trade. Or we could turn the Asik to Pelicans trade into a 3 way with Asik to Pelicans, Smith to Rockets, unguaranteed contracts and Motiejunas to Detroit. Beverley/Brooks/Canaan Harden/Daniels/Johnson Parsons/Ariza Smith/Jones (Ilyasova, Young, Anderson or Smith) Howard/Withey Would be a very improved team from last season. We would have filled our PF spot, backup wing spots, and replaced Lin (Brooks or Nelson) and Asik (Withey or Ajinca) with serviceable cheap players.
I think at this point the best we can hope for is to pry Scola from the pacers. with the signing of Ariza taking on the contracts of Boozer or Josh Smith cant happen.
According to 82games.com, opposing power forwards actually have a slightly lower PER with Parsons at PF instead of Jones. Honestly, Parsons is not a downgrade to Jones at the position. Jones sucked on defense last year. And he's also not big enough to guard LMA, Blake Griffins of the world. Personally, I think Jones start and Parsons will be the backup 3/4. SF Ariza 30 min/Parsons 15 min/3-guard lineup 3 min PF Jones 30 min/Parsons 15 min/DMo 3 min(he doesn't work well with Dwight) C Howard 33 min/DMo 15 min Or something like that.
This isn't an offer sheet for an Asik or a Lin...this is for a proven commodity that will be playing within your division. Forget about the cap situation. It was going to be messed up regardless. You match the offer and through trading of other assets you try acquiring the pieces you need to contend for a championship. 2016 is the year where you probably want to have cap space anyways...so Chandler's 3 year deal can be moved before that or he opts out. Dwight can opt out as well. Think about this though, with Lebron going to Cleveland, parity is very relevant. No one team is completely stacked this year. Unless Cleveland lands Love. But the East is not our problem. This Rockets team are in contention.
I agree. That's why I say just let him walk to Dallas and use the money to fill wholes, back-up PG, PF, and bench depth. I don't care if he plays in the division, Dallas is already screwed cap wise with an aging superstar, let them take another cap killing guy and then let them pray he produces at an elite level.
My mind is blown that there's anybody who could possibly think that Parsons is going to be coming off the bench at $15MM/year. Wake up.
Parsons screwed himself big time in this regards. If he had signed Heyward's 4yr/guaranteed full max, then yes, I see this as a problem. But look at his contract. It's designed for him to perform well and then get a much bigger contract in 2016 when the cap is expected to skyrocket. Parsons screws himself a lot harder than the Rockets if he throws a hissy fit. It is the one downside of his contract, and one that the Rockets better exploit while they can. Run him to the ground and let someone else pick up the consequences in 2 years.
Parsons can play small ball PF for some stretches, not permanently. One of the things that I like about signing Ariza is it gives us some flexibility. Play Beverley, Harden and Parsons, and then bring Ariza off the bench. Or, play Harden/Ariza/Parsons with Jones. Or, play Beverley/Harden/Ariza/Parsons for small ball lineups.
Use what money. If you don't match it's not like you have $15 million to spend. Once your over the cap you can't sign anyone except vet mins, you exceptions and players with bird rights (ie parsons).
Too many people still don't understand that letting Parsons go only frees a little less than 3 million in space. Not 15. Ariza, Daniels, Johnson are our bench depth. Still need a backup 4/5, but at this point gotta keep Parsons.
The Horry analogy is somewhat overstated. Rudy did not start Horry at PF until the WCF second (or third) game vs Spurs. In that rare scenario, it pulled the league's best rebounder rodman (who had no offense) away from the defenses boards Even despite Carl Herrera getting injured, Rudy started Pete Chillcutt like 15 games in the '95 title run That said, I recall Rudy also gave him minutes against Barkley and Malone. But that was primarily to get Elie more minutes. Horry at PF was situational (vs Rodman) and due to need, Herrera going down and Elie needing minutes with Drex. It's not really a plan I don't agree. Sign your depth now, deal with Parsons' contract later. At this point, unless Morey swings another deal, lock in your depth now. Parsons played WAYYY too many minutes last year. I'm counting on him being a noticeably better defense again getting the 30mpg that he should only get Let's get everyone down in minutes. I don't care how much it costs now that we landed a real Wing Defender. Build the defense.
