So just Ariza and nobody else? I would think CP still be a good trade asset even with his contract if we were to match. So basically we lost Lin, Asik and Parsons and got Ariza and don't have much money to add any depth. Yay.
Forget future flexibility! Our championship window is probably 1-2 years, depending on how fast Howard is going to regress...
Understandable if they are still going to get other pieces this Summer. Are you hearing anything else about a secondary player they might look to add along with Ariza? From the looks of it, the price doesn't look like its going to be that much different than Parsons contract, but I could be wrong. Are you hearing a price floating on that Morey would consider significantly better value than the Parsons contract?
Howard, once a player that relied completely on athleticism is becoming a player who is learning the game. As the game slows down for him, he has become a very intelligent player. Knowing where to be. I think we see Howard's passing ability improve greatly this season. I don't think age is going to be as big of a factor in his game as it once was. This is something I never expected to believe but I do think Howard has really began to take basketball a lot more seriously than he once did.
Adding Ariza and losing Parsons is a tough sell to me. I would have to be convinced what the flexibility had the ability to buy us. That also puts more of a burden on Harden in creating offense. Bev and Ariza just shooters. Maybe if Rox got Rondo I would reconsider.
All the teams in the west that made it to the 2nd rd have what in common? Great PG's. Blazers :Lillard Clippers: Paul Thunder: Westbrook Spurs: Parker Warriors: Curry (would be legit contenders if they had an all star big man) so i blame management for holding them back. But Curry is a stud All the teams in the west that just made the playoffs but were bounced early have what in common? Decent PG's Rockets: Beverly Mavs: Calderon Grizzlies: Conley You guys keep saying we need a PF. WE already got a superstar big man. No team other than memphis has two superstar bigmen. But they lack a great PG. See were i'm going with this? We need a PG. Get me Rondo because we already have a great bigman/sg. Parker/Ginobili/Duncan/Leonard/Diaw vs Rondo/Harden/Howard/Parsons/Jones
Getting Ariza and not matching Parson... that would mean we downgrade at SF, lose our scoring punch off the bench in Lin and the best backup C in the league. We'd essentially be quite a bit worse than we have been last season. Plus we'd still don't have max cap room in the foreseeable future, since Ariza will be on the books for at least 10 million. So the best we could hope for would be around 7 million in capspace next offseason. That would not make any sense what so ever. It would basically be throwing in the towel. Signing Ariza and matching Parsons would mean, that we have a great backup at the 2 and the 3, and Parsons would be required to play some PF. That would mean we upgraded at least 2 backup positions or 30-35 rotational minutes per game and allow Harden and Parsons to not play 40 minutes a night. This still wouldn't be my choice, but at least we would've upgraded our team a bit (at least not gotten worse). Like I said in several threads: why not Stephenson. A two dimensional player, a playmaker, good rebounder, good passer, good defender, brings toughness and emotion and can help us at PG, SG and SF. Plus he shouldn't be much more expensive than Ariza and is 5 years younger. Cyberx: have you heard anything about Stephenson, or don't they like him because of his antics and since he shouldn't be the best lockerroom guy?
I don't **** about the cap but did we get TPE's for Lin or Asik? Both are 8.4 and Rondo only makes like 11 this year I think.
Howard - 21.5 Harden - 14.7 Ariza - 11 ( 2 years) Jones - 1.6 Motiejunas - 1.4 Beverley - .9 Canaan - .8 Johnson .6 1.5 million for roster cap holds = 54 million in salary, 63.2 - 54 = 9.2 million to spend on other current free agents. So we could lets say sign Blatche and Augustin for 3 years / 15 million each. Then sign Garcia to veteran minimum, match Daniels or re-sign him with bird rights (can we do that??). Beverley/Augustin/Canaan Harden/Daniels/Johnson Ariza/Garcia Jones/Motiejunas Howard/Blatche Not worse then last years squad... not really much better either, but not worse.
You keep saying the same stuff over and over about get you Rondo, but HOW do you go about doing it? We already traded our assets we would have used to get him (Lin/Asik). We would have to get him before tomorrow evening and then match Parsons. The odds of that happening are slim to none. I have no idea either. I think we got a TPE in there somewhere but I am not sure and don't know enough about the deals to even speculate.
how do you know what their strategy is? I sure haven't seen a plan laid out for what moves they are making. Only that they were talking with Deng and Ariza. Not that they weren't matching Parsons either. Why don't you wait to see what they do before you bury them alive?
Blazers: Aldridge Clippers: Griffin Thunder: Ibaka spurs: Duncan Damn. You know what all these teams have in common? A stud PF!
"future flexibility"? ariza will want at least a 3 yr deal and he's asking for about the same money. so it's about parsons' players option? the rockets won't get burnt twice, right? ariza won't turn into the new jeremy lin with a worse contract?
You'd give Blatche and Augustin 5M per year?!!!! That's crazy talk. Those guys aren't worth half that, and the last thing this team needs is a bunch of over-paid role players taking up all the cap room.
