Even if Melo doesn't happen for Chicago I would go all out trying to trade for Taj and Dunleavy... It seems like he would be available if Melo wasn't an option for them.

I think the best move is to immediately create $15m in cap space. Then, in order:

    - Trade Terrence Jones to the Bucks for Illyasova and a future second rounder (or heavily protected first)
    - Sign Okafor for 2yrs/$9m, maybe a 3rd year team option
    - Sign DJ Augsustin for 2yrs/$8m
    - Match Parsons' offer sheet
    - Sign either Evan Turner or El Farouq Aminu to minimum
    - Bring back Covington, Canaan and Daniels

    Howard/Okafor
    Illyasova/Dmo/Covington
    Parsons/Aminu
    Harden/Daniels
    Beverley/Augustin/Canaan

Go to war. That's a better team than last season IMO.

    Looking at this again...

    Correct me if I'm wrong:

    Mathematically speaking, we can trade

    Terrence Jones
    Donatas Motiejunas
    Josh Powell
    Omri Casspi
    Isaiah Canaan

    for

    Kevin Martin

Then we could renounce our exceptions + release Covington and absorb Kevin Love's salary, right?

I wonder if taking Martin + huge financial savings + Canaan + DMo + Jones + NOLA pick + our protected 2017 first rounder would persuade the Wolves to make this trade. I also wonder if we could find a taker for Kevin Martin (in exchange for two smaller contracts) seeing as his salary is reasonable for his production.

Having to watch Kevin Martin or Boozer play as Rockets would be so ugly.

I think you have to assume Melo is staying in NY. We are seeing that older established players don't want to move if they are getting top market money anyway. Wives, families and lifestyle seem to trump the burning desire for a ring.

I don't know. It seems odd that he hasn't signed with NY yet. Perhaps he's waiting to see what Chicago is able to do.

Why was lins contract so bad for ny to match, but he only counts 8m in cap for houston or lakers? Is it because houston and lakers are under cap?

Owner is too cheap to amnesty Boozer.

If we do match Parson, what is the time frame for when he can be packaged in a trade?

Also, is it the same time frame for a player who bypassed the restricted free agent process, a la Avery Bradley?
