Dwight Howard had reiterated that he wanted to go to the team where he had the best chance of winning, and he chose Houston even though all of the media was saying he'd choose L.A for the extra $30m. Carmelo Anthony has also said that he wanted to win as it was his first priority, but what does he do? (More than likely) signs with the Knicks. Don't believe these players who say they're first priority is winning, because most of the time, that's just BS.
heh?? Bosh has consistently said he loves Miami and wants to stay. And Carmelo according to ESPN is torn between CHicago and NY right now.
Bosh strongly alluded to his love of Miami because of the winning. Referred to LeBron, taking less to help facilitate a better team, etc. He neglected to say that his love for Miami was simply because of the glamour.
Only reason why Bosh was going to stay was to be with LeBron (winning) . Now, there is no LeBron. The Heat will not be making a single ECF visit for the duration of Bosh's 5 year contract - guaranteed. I understand why he chose the money though - he already has 2 rings, so winning isn't as important to him as it was to Dwight.
Players say what they think people want to hear and Howard is no exception. Only he knows the reasons why he chose to come to Houston.
Really though, all of the teams he met with, none really drastically improved this offseason. Rockets are still better than those teams, or at least in a good situation.
WHere?? I'm watching coverage on ESPN all day and all their nba reporters saying Bosh fell in love with the city...really didn't want to leave etc.
THe dude took a pay cut for 4 years....plus maybe he's tired of being a 3rd dude on a team. The Rocket don't look like they'll make a WCF in Dwight's contract either.
Why's that? Because you hope it's true? Dwight took a team in the Magic to the Finals. If Harden plays like he should in the playoffs no reason why they can't make the WCF.
Bottom line is Bosh isn't likely to get another max deal after 4 years with any team, while Dwight is very likely to get another max deal after this contract barring injury. So I understand why Bosh would take the money to stay in a city he loves even if the chances to win seem to be significantly less. Still he is in the east so they are probably still a play off team, but they seem likely to be stuck at the 4-8 seed level if they resign Wade as expected for a reasonably large contract. I don't completely understand Miami overpaying for Bosh for 5 years when it's unlikely they will be contenders, but I guess it's always easier to keep a star than to try and recruit one, especially if you have none.
But he never said that winning was his what he was lookin for. He always stated how he wanted to stay in Miami.
If Harden plays like he should is a big if. To keep your offensive production in the defense heavy playoffs is tough except for the most talented players. To do so and at the same time suddenly add defensive intensity you have lacked makes it that much harder.
Bosh is not a max player anyway. That is just current free agent market wars. A few years from now Miami will regret that contract.
Making the playoffs in the East is not difficult...making the ECF in any conference is a tough task. That doesn't matter.
