People are complaining about lost talent when Morey got those guys here in the first place for basically nothing. Parsons and Asik cost us a second round pick and because of Morey working magic we got Parsons for cheap for 3 years. That isn't some new development, he has been doing that all along.
Mchale is one of the reasons Dwight signed in Houston. as long as Morey has been Rockets GM can you even count all the mistakes he has made on your 2 hands? Bonus Round for the Haters: Tally up all the mistakes that Morey has made that hasn't lead to a positive for the Rockets. Tally up all those mistakes that Morey has made that he hasn't rectified the following year. If he has ten mistakes ill shut up if he even has 5 mistakes ill be surprised..
Trying ain't good enough. Results matter. Getting 2 allstars is irrelevant if you can't get past the 1st round. Other teams in our conference have gotten better while we've digressed. Morey got greedy. He figured if he got 3 stars he'd secure his legacy. IMO it was never about making us a better basketball team. It was about having 3 stars and being the most exciting team in the NBA. Morey wanted the national recognition for putting this together, even if we didn't necessarily need Bosh, Melo, Love. All we needed was a few minor upgrades. Pure arrogance
Indeed. To add, we're still in a flexible position when another impact player becomes available to boot. That takes quite a bit of foresight. 1 season passes between our 2 franchise players and some think that it's supposed to be all roses. It's a work in progress. If anyone thinks we had a finished product after 1 season, you have nobody else to blame but yourself. Please stop the drama queen threads OP.
Not to mention he has the scouting department so good that every draft pick or low level free agent turns into D-League All-Stars. I mean look at our 2nd rounder already, outshining most of the 41 picks in front of him. \
The answer: Fire McHale After the playoff debacle and total embarassment that this incompetent, clueless pathetic hack of a coach McHale caused to the Rockets, free agents are unwilling to join the Rockets. Let's face it. The only compelling reason to join the Rockets is to play with Howard and Harden on a potential championship team. Free agents who want to win have realized that Houston stands ZERO chance of winning with McHale as coach. He is amongst the 3 worst coaches out there so why should they waste their time here knowing that McHale is a liability.
wtf did i just read? Morey greedy for trying to get an all star player that would satisfy a multitude of needs? one of the reasons why Rockets lost in the first round last year was because we had no 4.. MOREY WENT OUT TO GET ONE OF THE BEST 4s IN THE LEAGUE!!! guaranteed if Morey went after middle talent it would have been a problem... what is wrong with you people!? Morey got Harden and Dwight THE HARD WAY, received no recognition. Morey rebuilt a team in 3 years without draft picks or a losing season, no recognition. Morey found gems in dumpsters and local YMCAs, no recognition. why would Morey want recognition NOW? do you hear yourself?
Fire Morey? Probably the hardest working GM in the league? No way! This is why I didn't vote for Obama, though.
I don't even know if Morey has any fault in this one. Bosh screwed us big time. There is no way we should forgive Bosh. Houston lost a first round pick and a second round pick because he was using us as leverage. If Bosh didn't give Houston all the indication in going through with the deal, Houston would not have to lose these picks.
Here's my list: 1) Letting Adelman walk 2) Hiring Mchale 3) Giving Jeremy Lin that contract 4) Signing Trevor Ariza 5) Drafting Marcus Morris over K. Leonard 6) Drafting Royce White 7) Trading AB last years deadline (we needed him in the playoffs) 8) Letting Dragic walk 9) Not firing Mchale after this years postseason 10) Chasing a 3rd star when it wasn't needed
I think Morey is safe. McHale should be on the hot seat but you never know. I believe both Harden and Howard can opt out of their contracts in two years so hopefully we'll be at least going deep in the playoffs by then.
How is this team going deep in the playoffs? We play no defense and have too many holes once the game really matters.
Do you really think that this was the only plan in place, and that Morey and all of his staff are just a bunch of dumbasses.
There wasn't one analyst, writer, NBA guy out there who thought going for Bosh was a mistake. Several going as far as to say best starting lineup in the entire league. That it would out us in the SA and OKC tier. And people are complaining that our GM had his sights set on that. How dare he.
I agree, but the idea of today being the right time to assess his performance in putting together a roster for next year is equally absurd. He's not done yet.
Out of those, you could only argue 1, 3, 6, 8 are valid points. From those three only 6 and 8 were big mistakes in my book. There's no real defense for those. As for the other stuff... Adelman retired this season, there's not too much lost from that. McHale contributed heavily towards the development of Parsons and the fact that Dwight Howard now plays in Houston. Lin was given that contract at a time when there was no one on the team worthwhile due to the roster being gutted. It was a mistake in hindsight though, which is always 20/20. Trevor Ariza ended up not turning into the player we expected. But it doesn't really matter as he was flipped into Courtney Lee after only 1 season. Lee was a hugely productive player for us. Saying things like drafting Marcus Morris over Leonard is silly. The draft is hugely random. Morey has an excellent track record of drafting gems. A huge number of other GM's also passed on Leonard. That's like saying it's a mistake that every other team in the NBA didn't draft Parsons. That's a lowbrow way of analyzing things. Your seventh point is moot. We traded a player from a position where we supposedly had great depth (cancelled out by the Jeremy Lin no show) for a player who covered an area that we needed help in. A wing defender. It didn't work out. It happens. 9 and 10 are opinion pieces. A huge reason for keeping McHale could be due to the influence of Dwight Howard. You know. That superstar who happens to be the best center in the NBA that Morey/McHale got. 10 is silly in my eyes. Most GM's in the league are criticized for never being able to make the big moves. We are always in contention to make the big moves. Sometimes it does not work. Get over it.
1. Check 2. Mchale is one of the reasons Howard is here. 3. Les 4. We were still looking for a star. Ariza had the potential, didn't work out. Same can be said of Harden, but it worked out great. 5. Arguable. As KD said, Kahwi is a product of the system. Might not perform similarly if he went here. 6. Check 7. My memory is a little rusty, but we had to dump his salary then? But, sure, check. 8. Dragic chose to leave. 9. Probably because he's one of the reason why Howard is here. But, yeah, I still give it a check. 10. Wasn't necessary, but increases chance of winning. We're still in good shape now that we still only have 2 stars. Just sign some quality role players.
