Yea...you let them walk for NOTHING!!! Tell me what you got back for trading those guys away. Chris Bosh lied? According to who?? Some dude on a messageboard claiming to have heard it frm a friend?
Of course you match. It's effectively on a two year deal with the player opt-out (and a new CBA coming).
So we're pretty much riding with this lineup for two years. I wish I could have hope but unless Chandler Parsons becomes a legitimate LeBron-level superstar, we're screwed. Maybe Harden becomes a tier 1, or maybe Dwight has a Hakeem-like resurgence. I don't know, its pretty much all down to one of those three elevating their games to legendary levels. That is if we even match Parsons.
Likely move is get best FA available for our needs (upgrade current roster) and then match Parson. Team will be better next year but strapped payroll wise and then Morey will have to work his magic to make moves for future. Have to take advantage of Harden and Howard while you have them.
Would be a complete and utter waste of money. Parsons was an inconsistent, ball-hogging, over-dribbling player who shot many hero shots - unfortunately this is what our undisciplined offensive system allows and maybe even encourages. However, in a system with more picks and screens and a coach that can more effectively utilize his talents I think he will flourish. I wish him well in Dallas if we don't match.
Only if we can somehow swing a big deal here. Otherwise no. He's simply not worth that contract. The capspace will be more valuable and I think Ariza as a SF would be worth it more and more veteran players and just rely on the growth of Harden/Dwight.
Parsons has to be matched. There is no conceivable replacement, and I fully expect Morey to make moves within the next 48 hours. Keep the faith, fellas.
Sign role players (preferably younger guys) and match Parsons. If Parsons gets better, his contract (even with kicker) won't be untradeable.
Cuban figured out that either they get Parsons, or they screw Rockets by limiting the cap space to sign other top players. Win win for Cuban, I must say.
Cap Flexibility must be a hell of a player, but I can't find his stats anywhere. Of course you match. You try to IMPROVE on last year's 54-win team with the window you have and go win as many games as you can. I would have loved a third star. Didn't work out. But it was never the only way to improve this team. Back away from the ledge.
I'm shocked by how willing people are for the Rockets to be worse than this past season. Without Parsons the Rockets are worse. I don't want to watch a worse Rockets team than I watched last year. This is the prime of Howard and Harden. Going backwards isn't helpful to the franchise. From the outside Parsons isn't worth the max. But that market is over. With Hayward's max deal, and Dallas offer to Parsons what the market used to be is done. You have to play with the cards you've been dealt. The cards the Rockets were dealt say to pay Parsons. It's not fun to overpay for a player, but the market is what it is. You sign Parsons and get whatever other pieces you can. If you need someone to trade to bring a legitimate 3rd star, then Parsons can be that piece. No other Rocket would really fit that role. Most of all I want the Rockets to get better not worse. Overpaying Parsons doesn't make the team worse, and it doesn't cost me a cent.
I would think if you can find a way to bring in assets with the money you had cleared for Bosh and then match Parsons using his Bird rights you do it. If no other moves have been made at the deadline and signing Chandler destroys your cap for the next three years then I say no.
thank you! people act like our players/management are patient with being mediocre for a year. morey has reiterated many times that the goal is to win now. so we struck out on bosh, but i'm positive the rockets will make moves and match. i also think it's highly likely that parsons is traded later in the year. there is no chance les/morey let him walk for nothing.
Why are you so sure he will opt out? What if he doesn't play up to his contract and nobody wants him for more than 10M a year two years from now?
