All white in born and raised in Houston are definitely pretentious. Only cool white people I met are from out of state.
Seems opposite for me. White people from out of state always think it's better from where they came from, talking down about Houston and Texas. People who grew up in Houston are much chiller.
Saw this yesterday. Fairly accurate IMO. I grew up in Spring Branch, I don't think they got that area right at all. I guess I grew up in the richish part according to that map? Now I have a stake in the "richest people" zone + "edgy yuppies" zone. I really just wanna be in that - doucebag, white single, gay - zone but it never works out.
Kind of funny to see oak forest/garden oaks where I grew up now "pretentious" - honestly that place was anything but when I was a kid. Now all those damned mcmansions are there, it's crazy.
I've always thought it was for people who wanted to live in the Heights but just couldn't quiet afford it.
The lakes are actually the only way to drain the flat land, you dig the lakes down and put the fill on the lots to raise it. That way a 6" rain runs into the lakes and not into your house. Selling lakefronts and scenic bridges is just a bonus.
rich-ish people. i'll take it. On a side note. This is more applicable to where you were either born, or are raising a family. I know plenty of rich yuppies that don't want anything to do with anything inside the loop. (yeah, they do exist)
Nah the Heights were kind of grungy and sh-tty back then and the houses were more rundown and crime was worse. I guess now it's a different story.
It is still pretty grungy but has been adopted into safe grunge. Plus tiny 800 square feet homes are being "renovated" into 3500 sq ft homes with a 800 sq ft porch.
