Even if they were all doing great... it really doesn't matter unless they're able to do it at the MLB level.

Some guys are going to be late bloomers (think McHugh, Kuechel). Some guys are specifically working on certain things that are "un-natural" to them but will help them in the long-run, thus it may lower their numbers now.

I hear you on Appel and Aiken... if those two were to not make it, it definitely would change my "optimism" for the state of the minor league system going forward... but I'm really jones-ing to see Appel get his head out of the Cali league (and I'd bet money that he starts to dominate the Texas league almost immediately), and Aiken is too young to let an injury (even one that needs surgery) let you make final decisions on him now.

I don't disagree with most of this, just looking for the Luhnow moves that we can say were great hits! Haven't seen em myself, hope I'm missing em

As for Keuchel and McHugh being late bloomers, I really hope that is the case as opposed to they just had a couple of great months

Absolutely, he looks without a doubt like a future star

Just wish there was more to point to at this point, that's all I'm saying

Might start a Luhnow thread for discussion so we don't clog up this one

Vince Velasquez is another guy who had an exemplary start and then went down with injury. Ugh.

VV came from the Wade regime (we are talking about guys Luhnow acquired right?).

Also what ever happened to him? Any word on his injury?

They had another wild one in Lancaster.

Jethawks were down 8-0, came back to win 15-12. Scored 4 in the 7th, and 6 in the 8th. Conrad Gregor went deep yet again

Ugh. Not sure you can take anything there at face value. Really wish they had a different high A affiliate.

    Welcome Courtney Hawkins.

@brianmctaggart: Astros Minor League pitcher Bobby Doran has been traded to White Sox. He's headed to Triple-A Charlotte.

@EvanDrellich: Astros get a PTBNL for Bobby Doran source says. Three minor league trades in a weeks time

A.J. Reed's 3rd homer of the year proved to be the difference as Tri-City won 4-3. The shot came in the 8th and put them in the lead.

Obviously it's early, but I think Reed can be the best bat in the Astros system not named Correa by next year, especially now that he's focusing solely on hitting. Love his approach and power - I think he's actually "struggled" in the early going, but still has more walks than strikeouts and an OPS above .800.

lol. 13 hits in 4 innings. It's sadly just comical now. He needs to go to Quad City not Corpus imo. I'm still shocked that he's getting rocked so badly. I would understand if his stuff couldn't transition to MLB, but he should at least dominate A ball.

Theo Epstein has been consistent in his drafting philosophy. The Cubs will draft the best player available on their board. As an example, the Cubs picked second in the draft in 2013. After college pitcher Mark Appel was taken first by Houston, the Cubs chose third baseman Kris Bryant. Appel was No.1 on the Cubs’ draft list and Bryant was No. 2. They didn’t reach for another pitcher.

If only we had been picking number two.

May as well send him to CC at this point. If he gets rocked there oh well. Lancaster is an impossible place to pitch and only serves to compound his struggles.

Sending him to QC is pointless because we would just have to promote him back to Lancaster.
