Well we say all we want is a heavily protected 2nd rder and the Trade Exception to replace parsons.

OR we match as we have no other choice

It's kind of a win win

That would allow us to sign bosh the. Go over the cap to bring in ariza or deng

Which would be a substantial improvement

    This.

In all honesty, the way Parsons played last year and especially in the Playoffs paying him max money would be dumb and really dumb if we don't get Bosh.

Point being: He was a valuable player at $800K and he will be an overpaid player at $15 million.

my stream of consciousness this morning.

    • The plan was always to land a third star, and pair that star with a roster that included Parsons or other near-elite SF
    • upgrading the PF position was a priority
    • possible upgrades included Bosh, Melo & Love
    • if you landed Melo, there's some overlap between Parsons and Melo, creating the possibility of trading the former
    • by declining Parsons' option, Morey knew he would get a solid offer from another team, and likely expected to match it
    • Bima noted on twitter last night that the rockets' only options now are to match or decline to match the Mav's offer. they cannot match and trade him
    • this means that from the moment the rockets made Parsons a RFA, he was never going to be included in a trade for Love, or anyone else
    • so any deal Morey had for Love, if he had one still exists
    • the rockets can match parsons, and try to execute that trade
    • sign bosh and match parsons
    • sign bosh and get a SF elsewhere
    • match parsons and go w/ existing PFs
    • a Harden, Howard, Bosh trio is better than a Harden, Howard, Parsons trio
    • Morey has war-gamed this all out and has a plan
    • we can only criticize that plan after it's has fully played out
    • the only unanticipated event has been LBJ's keeping the entire league twisting in the wind
    • Morey did Parsons a favor by making him a RFA now
    • not only does he get his payday sooner, but he makes +$10M more over the life of his career.
    • I'm very surprised/disappointed that apparently neither Parsons nor Fagen valued that gesture.

Parsons jumped the gun because he wanted out.

Honestly I think it's unlikely at this point we will sign Bosh and keep Parsons.

The S&T scenario is problematic because of the hard cap and the outright signing of Bosh scenario is very problematic because getting to his max will be almost impossible without dumping every single player on the team outside of Bev/Harden/Dwight.

Oh never mind well honestly then we have to match either way

If we sign bosh we have no way of adding any other major pieces unless morey works magic with Lin/Asik deals

Cause I don't believe the TE are big enough for ariza or deng

[rQUOTEr]Once Parsons signs the offer sheet, he cannot be part of a sign-and-trade to the Mavericks or another team and there can be no other negotiations with him. He would not be eligible to be traded until Dec. 15, and then only with his approval next season. He could not be dealt to Dallas.[/rQUOTEr]

Hard cap won't matter if we aren't keeping parsons but whatever if bosh wants to play for us he needs to hurry we are losing options like crazy

@WojYahooNBA: Yahoo Sources: Free agent forward James Johnson agrees to a two-year deal with Toronto. http://t.co/r20sPAlWdd

He could have been a MLE replacement for parsons

Great post -- I concur that we should hold out and wait for things to unfold before judging.

I'm saddened that there wasn't even the hint of a rumor that Parsons would jump the gun and screw us over.

He's a male model. They're the perfect vessels for doing dastardly undercover stuff.

The problem is Parsons can't control where to land if HOU doesn't match. For all we know Orlando could max him out instead of signing Frye. Parsons gets his millions and is playing for a ****ty team next two+ years. Is this really worth more than a near-max 5year contract that DM would hand to Parsons next year?

Unless Parsons really wanted out...in that case we missed something.

We don't know how much of that was Parsons and how much was Cuban putting a "sign it or we walk" situation.

Cuban is smart enough to know that more time for Parsons is more time for Morey to get Bosh and keep Parsons. He also knows this is the best possible offer the Parsons could ever hope to get, so he has no reason to give Parsons ANY time to think it over.

If I'm Cuban, I fly out Parsons and say,

"Here's the deal, it has everything you and your agent wanted and more... sign it or I'm going to look at other options."

Parsons likely had no choice but to sign... the potential down side if he doesn't sign it is huge.

A suspense filled Free-Agency period which was meant to be good for us, takes a massive nose dive with us out of the running for Lebron or Melo (the former being a long shot anyway), then a core piece of our team from last season APPEARS to be on his way out.

Even if we get Bosh somehow, we'll have the same problem as last season just at a different position, PLUS we'll have Bosh playing backup 5 instead of Asik. Is it time to panic yet?

Parsons a great 3rd option that's being paid superstar money. I'll pass. He did what was in his best interest though, and I don't begrudge him for it.
