Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I really dont feel like waiting 3+ hours in line for food no matter how good lol
Waiting in line is worth doing once. After that, stick to their catering. The brisket is the best I've tasted, but the experience is not. You can spend less time waiting at La BBQ and still get some damn fine meat.
Just had Brisket House for the first time and I was pretty disappointed. I am not sure if they are using an actual smoker or an oven with smoke pumped in...I am guessing the oven. Brisket was probably a 3-4/10. It was slightly moist and slightly tender, but needed to be more of both. There was some bark on the pieces but it really lacked in flavor...could definitely double down on the rub. To me the most disappointing is that they sliced it on the thin side which makes me think they are hiding a poorly cooked brisket. Does anyone go here more often? Maybe they have better days?
I've been to the one on Center St. in Deer Park a few times. Far from the best, but not quite the worst. Thier brisket has always been too lean IMO.
What a great idea! Something similar needs to done in Austin. If I heard about one here, I'd go. Depending on the list of BBQ places, of course. We have so many good ones, you'd think it'd be easy to leave some I can think of off the list.
Jimmy Kimmel did a funny bit when he was in Austin where he tries different barbecue spots with Guillermo. It gets a little weird. Jimmy and Guillermo Search for Austin's Best BBQ
Yeah, that's pretty cool.... I don't usually like organized outings, but a bus full of Lone Star dedicated to BBQ?
All these hotspot BBQ places you'll are talking about with these lines...how long a wait are we talking? Even then...they may run out before you get served? People must be real serious about their BBQ. Not enough supply to meet the demand apparently.
If you want a chance at the full menu for Franklin's, you probably have to be in line around 8 am. Bring a cooler.
For those of you in the DFW area, Pecan Lodge (http://www.pecanlodge.com/) just moved out of the Farmers Market and into their own location in Deep Ellum. It's considered some of the best bbq in the state. They also supposedly have great fried chicken. I can't vouch for either as I haven't tried it. I may venture down to Deep Ellum just to check it out once the commotion settles down. Also, Texas Monthly has their Top 50 BBQ joints out (the magazine hit stands yesterday, I believe) : http://www.texasmonthly.com/eat-my-words/list-top-50-barbecue-joints http://www.texasmonthly.com/lists/50-best-bbq-joints-world
i went a few weeks ago. their brisket is amazing. sausage and ribs were good too. we got there around 9 am on a sunday and got to eat around 1. they go through the line and ask what everyone is getting in order to know where in the line they'll start running out of food and will let you know. i recommend you bring fold out chairs and a cooler as leroy said.
Anyone been to city market in Luling? Might head out that way this weekend. Looking for dos and don'ts.
