They can frontload it with a signing bonus like how the Blazers did when they signed Wesley Matthews away from the Jazz

I believe based on years, it should be 25% of the cap which is $63.03mil or $15.7575 per year for four years + 4.5% annual increases if signed w/out his Bird rights.

Mavs probably mad because Bosh spurned them and he is from there

I certainly understand the fact that he wants to get paid, but he was going to get paid regardless.

Dude could have waited for the Bosh chip to fall.

Chandler Parsons was 1 of just 6 NBA players to average at least 16 ppg, 5.5 rpg & 4 apg during the 2013-14 season. Is that worth $15 mil/year?

Completely disagree unless you are meaning Parsons did the right thing to take advantage of Morey. Morey never should have let Parsons become a RFA this year. It was dumb on his part.

By allowing Parsons to become a RFA he helped Parsons make money a year quicker. He didn't have to do this.

Maybe I am missing some CBA related ****, but I think it's a b**** move by Parsons and dumb blunder by Morey.

That's not going to work. Bosh can get a max contract on any number of teams, including one from Miami. He can just say, "Sorry, I'll wait to see how this pans out" and know that even if Lebron walks, he can get another max contract on another team, potentially a contender.

All Stars dictate the pace and location, not the teams that are trying to sign the All Star..

Parsons isn't an all-star, so when a team puts a max contract in front of him he pretty much has to sign it unless he has multiple max offers. Cuban put a clock on him, made it a no-trade kicker with player option and offered him the most money he'll likely see any time soon.

Cuban holds the power as Parsons is clearly getting an overpay due to his being a RFA (have to overbid to get him away from Morey, if it was fair market or a slight overpay Morey would just match).

We're at the mercy of the clock now, and that's just how it is.

Well if LeBron isn't going back to Miami, which I think would most likely happen, Morey shouldn't have much to worry about. Bosh will still sign to Houston and without doubt Morey will match the Parsons offer.

it's not the price tag, it's the cap room...and the timing, with the continued dilettantish behaivior from camp Bosh.

Parsons did what's right FOR HIM. We can't be mad at him for doing that when our GM is moving players (ie Lin) because it's right for the team.

No point to give him until tomorrow afternoon. What if James decides to go to Cleveland on Friday?

I think what you do is you keep talking to Bosh, explain he can either make the max without Parsons or make $2,000,000 less WITH Parsons. You get him to agree to sign with Houston if James does leave Miami.

You then make deals for Jones, DMo and Canaan contingent on Bosh signing.

IF James opts out even Friday night, you can get the deals made to give Bosh the max or $19,000,000 and then you only match Parsons at the last 30 minutes.

That screws Dallas out of recruiting other free agents, and you get Bosh and Parsons most likely.

If James does not commit to Cleveland or Miami by Friday, you then have to decide if you want to sign someone like Deng prior to accepting Parsons offer sheet.

it's really hard to expect agents and players to prioritize working together with management if you are not a top tier player. In Parson's case, a very good player but not exactly a no-doubt max player, it really makes sense (cents) to secure his future now knowing Morey's history of treating non-superstars as assets. He has seen the Rockets court Melo who mostly plays his position, and sign Asik and Lin only to deprioritize them in favor of bigger stars. It isn't deplorable, just the way it is. And that makes me think that Parsons should in no way be a martyr considering how self serving owners and GMs ultimately are.

    Not when he can't defend.

We need his 3point shooting and his scoring efficiency, but do we need him to give us 4 apg and that few rebounds that Howard or any other players can take up?

If the Rockets didn't decline Parsons' team option and paid him less than a million, would we have enough cap space to give Bosh the max?

If we miss out on Bosh because of Dallas' attempted **** block, I'm going to guess Morey is will heavily regret the one time he decided to treat a player as something other than an asset.

    You don't get it.

Morey never would have made parsons a RFA if he had any intention of letting him go. He would have kept the cheap year and traded him or just let him walk next year. He will match the offer, but because parsons signed the most toxic contract as soon as possible, it is most likely going to **** us over as far as other moves go.

We did him a favor and he screwed us over big time.

After Morey did his boy Lin dirty? Parsons looks out for all of his girls.

I think the most they can offer for a RFA is 10% of their guaranteed salary as a signing bonus. That would be split between all three years of his contract. So his cap hit would be around $17m per year for the Mavs. Would they screw themselves like that? I don't think Morey would care about a backloaded contract. He could probably trade Parsons by then.

Can't? He's shown to be a capable defender in the past, especially his rookie year. It's what got him on the court. Since then he's been asked to do quite a bit more so his defense has suffered. Perhaps that would be the thing he worked on this summer since it seems he is always working on deficiencies.
