People were shouting at the OP and yelling for the thread to be locked without actually thinking about the situation. This is actually the exact question that Morey faces right now. The Dallas offer being signed means Morey cannot sign Bosh straight up under a max deal without letting Parsons go (due to his $2.88M qualifying offer). It also means that if Morey acquires Bosh via a sign and trade, it will have to fill out all but six of the roster spots (Dwight, Harden, Bosh, Parsons, Beverley and Jones) with basically ONLY minimum wage guys (including maybe Nick Johnson, Canaan and Covington). So, it is possible to have both, but this requires MIA to help and having little resources to fill out a bench.
Even if it seems funny to you, this is just not true. HOU just got paid a 1st round pick from NOP for Asik, even at $15M. He is a starting caliber center and you can't find minimum wage guys to play at his level. He alone is worth more than the likely entire bench rotation in the scenarios laid out above. Lin may have his flaws, but he is still way better than what Morey can expect to find at the minimum without getting lucky with a Pat Beverley type. You'd likely lose Daniels, too, who was critical in the playoffs. DMo also. And maybe even Jones. Morey took chances on a number of minimum guys-- Garcia, Casspi, Reggie Williams, Camby, Josh Powell-- and none were all that great. He works hard but it ain't easy finding gems at minimum wage.
That is one way to go (one of the best) but is this idea that Mathloom possible? we might be able to make out pretty damn well without Parsons. We could then have a little more breathing space. Deng for 12 million isn't the only option in that type of scenario either. We could lets trade Asik, Lin for sizable TPE's, then sign someone like PJ Tucker for 3 yr/24 million, then S&T for Bosh and then use our TPE's and picks to trade for bench upgrades like Dunleavy (or other wings) and maybe a big Beverley/Nelson/Canaan Harden/Daniels/Garcia Tucker/Dunleavy Bosh/Jones/Covington Howard/Mozgof
Parsons is not worth 15 million, heck, he might not even be worth 12 million His Defense was getting worse, how long until his offensive productions are getting worse. What are the odds of a second rounder staying borderline allstar level. Not great. They drop.
you say that like it's his fault. i say it starts with coaching. carlisle is going to show us his full potential, just watch
Okay nevermind we need the cap space in the S&T for Bosh, so Trade Lin and Asik for TPE's Sign and trade for Bosh Sign a wing with our MLE (Pierce, Marion, Jefferson) Then use TPE's and draft picks to trade for bench depth (Dunleavy, Turiaf, Shumpert) So we could build our bench replace Parsons and have room to breathe under the hard cap.
I was hoping to get Bosh then maybe look at Deng for around 10-12 mil, and have the extra that would take to keep Parsons on somebody that could help the bench. It isn't are starters that was the problem. It was having no bench that killed us. Also James getting Monstared the first 4 games of the playoffs.
It's a difficult question to answer. It sounds like The Rockets & Bosh have an agreement pending Lebron's decision. If that's true and the only way to give Bosh the money we agreed to give home is to rescind Chandler's RFA qualifying offer, then Chandler may have to go in order for the Rockets to make good on their agreement to Bosh. If that's the case then I would expect Morey to attempt a S&T deal with Miami for Bosh. That would allow the Rockets to match the Mavericks offer.
Well, the rules are designed to prevent double-dipping. Otherwise, a team at the cap can trade away a $10M player for no salary. Sign a player with $10M in cap room, then trade for another using $10M in trade exception.
Well, trade Lin, Asik, S&T for Bosh and then maybe with a miracle we could get get Tucker to agree to a MLE deal (If not go after Marion, Jefferson, Pierce). Then at least we could comfortably use our BLE, sign Johnson, re-sign Daniels, and sign players to veteran minimum's instead of league minimums. Beverley/Nelson/Canaan Harden/Daniels/Johnson Tucker/Hamilton/Garcia Bosh/Jones/Covington Howard/Hollins/Toliver Sign Tucker MLE and Hamilton BAE. Then sign Garcia, Nelson, Toliver and Hollins for veteran minimums. All of those salaries add up to be somewhere around 76 million.
