Yup. Woj tweeted that Parsons and Rockets were negotiating a contract but could not come to terms. I'm assuming Morey wasn't offering him $15M per so Parsons went out and got it.

And I also think Cuban gave him a ultimatum of signing early or the big money is gone.

Shrug, we were paying backups $15 mil/year this year anyway. No biggie.

Just because Cuban can pay Parsons $15 mil doesn't mean he deserves it. The market isn't always right.

That said, I don't blame him for taking it either.

Bull****! Morey and the Rockets worked harder than anyone in the NBA to get its stars! Teams like the Lakers and Miami deserve that "karmic gut punch" youre talking about. once again Rockets have to work even harder just to keep one of its role players. It seems to me Rocket are consistently getting sucker punched for running a solid franchise.

Assuming this all works out for us... How is Harden gonna feel being the 4th highest paid player on the team? Would be behind DH, CB, and CP!

A sucker punch by Marc Cuban. It was easy to see that coming, with a Bosh signing being a realistic possibility. Cuban couldn't just stand aside while the Rockets combine a Beverley, Harden, Parsons, Bosh and Dwight starting lineup. At the very least he's going to make it expensive and put Les into a bind tax wise.

LOL cant say I am the least bit surprise about this since I've only been talking about this as the likely scenario for the last couple weeks. Despite expecting it, I gotta say, its still a pretty hilarious move by Cuban, as well as a blunder by Morey and a nice windfall for Parsons.

IMO Cuban and Parsons are doing the right thing, for Cuban its a win/win scenario whether Morey matches or not. Getting Parsons for 15 million per is an overpay, but the Mavs were not going to be able to likely attract any other big name FA in the next couple years nor have the cap space. So while the move doesn't elevate them to top contenders, it does improve their team without any real cost asides from Cubans money.

Parson obviously had to sign the offer sheet. Bottom line is, he has get the best deal he can, after being one of the least paid good player for the past 3 years. Signing doesn't mean he wants to leave Hou, just like Lin signing didnt mean he wanted to leave NYK in 2012, it just means they are willing to take the offer presented to them and allowing Houston to decide.

the problem is, is that with theoretical Howard, Bosh, Harden, Parsons....thats going to be around 72-74 million. the Hard cap is 80.8 i think. So they would have like 6 million to spend on the rest of the roster.

We can still sign Bosh to the max, a S&T deal would be best.

    Beverley
    Harden
    Parsons
    Bosh/Jones
    Howard

I did the math and all of their salaries and the roster cap hold would add up to 77 million dollars, the hard cap is 81 million. We would have 7 million to fill out 6 more roster spots with the team I posted above.

On top of that, James has finished his meeting with Riley and is STILL noncommital.. so there is no idea when that will be resolved.

The Rockets have 3 days to match...

The odd thing is that I don't think that Chandler Parsons does anything special for Dallas and he ties up their cap space.

Was it right when we signed Lin and Asik with 15m balloon payments?

What is good for the goose.
