LeBron is pissing me off. Go to ****ing Cleveland. *******. ITS NOT THAT HARD PICK UP THE PHONE AND TELL DAN GILBERT YOU ARE GOING THERE. TELL PAT RILEY TO GO **** HIMSELF. Incredibly annoying that LeBron doesn't know where he wants to go by now. Does he really want to waste several more seasons playing with crappy Wade and non-superstar Bosh and a bunch of vet min scrubs?
The reason why Morey contacted Deng is to cover his bases. There is the chance that the Cavs are talking sign-and-trade with Deng going to either Minnesota or Miami. So Morey did the right thing. He put in a call to Deng to tell him he was interested, learn what he could, see what Deng (or his agent) would say about contract, etc. Deng is not primary on our landscape. But he could become an option...especially if the Cavs are talking sign-and-trade with Minny for Love. See?
Hopefully that communication was along the lines of, "I'll have my flight to Houston booked before LeBron can say 'Cleveland Rocks!'"
Because, with all respect (and I know a lot of you Mavs fans have been acting as if Chandler Parsons to your team is some kind of done deal if we get Bosh), there is no way, NONE, that Morey would let Parsons walk for free into Mark Cuban's outstretched arms. No chance. None. Zip. Zero. Nada. Zilch. Diddly. Bupkis. Niente.
Signing Deng doesn't necessarily mean Parsons is gone or that Deng is our new stretch 4 (if Terrence Jones couldn't handle Aldridge what makes you think Deng could?). Morey is in a difficult spot in that he has cap space to sign another good player this offseason, but that cap space will be gone after resigning Parsons. He has to use it or lose it. While signing a starting caliber SF when we already have one isn't optimal, it's better than having only one. In that sense, Morey is still ASSET building, and not TEAM building. If Deng agreed to the right price, I'm sure Morey would entertain signing him, reupping Parsons, and going into training camp with both. People will laugh, but not as much after December 15 when Houston trades Deng or Parsons along with picks for that third star we've been looking for.
Good Idea I have not been paying attention . . . Deng seems to be a solid player but nothing special . .. am I wrong in that? Rocket River
610 was just talking about this.. they were saying that Deng and parsons basically have equal statistics..but Deng has been in league for 10 years and that veteran presence may be good for the team they said signing of Deng doesn't necessarily mean Parsons is gone. Morey may be acquiring more assets; can flip him later. But they said Harden, Deng, and Parsons is a little redundant skillset for the wing positions..to have that much in salary for a couple of spots...
Yeah, why would this be a fail if we end up with Deng? I'm all for the big splash, but Deng would come in and immediately become the best defender on the perimeter. Good corner three point threat. He's also a little insurance in case the numbers for Parsons get too high.
