Well Jones is a solid young talent, Lin would be popular and happy in Boston and the NOP pick will be a lottery. So you never know, it just might get it done. I highly doubt it, I'm pretty sure Parsons would need to be included but I would be ecstatic if we could acquire Rondo and keep Parsons. Talk about throwing in Young? I think i'd have to follow in Ccorn's footsteps and personally go down on Morey too. Best part is, we could spend our cap space first, then re-sign Parsons and make those trades. So we could sign, lets say Hill for 5 million and Jefferson for 4 million. Rondo/Beverley/Canaan Harden/Daniels/Johnson Parsons/Jefferson/Garcia Young/Jones/Covington Howard/Hill
The nature of knee injuries is that you sort of have to to prove you're back as the frequency of there being a structural issue, especially with Rondo's history and how it happened. He played like dog**** last season too, while sure there are valid reasons (injury, no training camp), dog**** is still dog****.
In 2007, he averaged 4 apg. In 2008, 5 apg. In 2009, 8 apg. In 2010, 10 apg. In 2011, 11 apg. Yep. They seem exactly the same to me. I don't know what I was thinking. You don't get it. The reason we're pursuing Bosh/Love is b/c Jones is an inadequate starting PF. It's useless to use Jones for comparative purposes. If we get a legit starting PF, he'll average more than 7 rpg. And that means fewer rebounds for Rondo. In other words, you can't give any valid reasons why Rondo is a better fit than Beverley. Also, it seems like you're forgetting that Beverley made the all-defensive 2nd team last season. There are plenty of elite point guards in the league, and they're going to get their stats. You can't stop them. You can only hope to make it difficult for them, and Beverley does that. In any case, at this point, claiming that Rondo is a superior defender is intellectually dishonest.
Those were before he tore his ACL. It doesn't make sense to gauge a post-torn-ACL Rondo using accolades he earned before he tore his ACL. It's a significant injury.
Not getting into the middle of this, however will say this... Rondo was hot garbage after returning from his injury last year. Defensively he was atrocious and was often pulled for a lack of defensive efforts.
Exactly. If Rockets are truly set on upgrading PG position then go after Eric Bledsoe. He is a very good defender (not quite Bev level) but he is a dynamic scoring guard (penetrator, fast breaks & 3 ball). He would be the perfect combo guard next to James Harden. Bledsoe would make this Rockets offense crazy, guy just loves to play up tempo. Everyone on Clutchfans loves Dragic, but Bledsoe was an absolute beast for the Suns, and his game would perfectly complement Harden's. Rondo is not only a bad fit, he is a shadow of his former self. Rockets fans need to stop living in the past.
Obviously you weren't watching the playoffs the year the Celtics won the chip. And it's not Orlando's fault that his teammates got old. I'm not a Rondo fan but dude can run an offense and they wouldn't have won without him. The reason many Rockets fan don't won't Rondo is because they like the Mickey Mouse offensive system the Rockets run and that would change if we got Rondo... But like I said _ I would rather have Bledsoe (and go sign Hill). Again _ go watch the games. If Rondo is controlling the ball the defense can't sag off him or pack the paint with Harden on the perimeter. And Rondo has a nack for not getting fouled so that's easier for you to say than it s for teams to do. Plus Rondo is 2-3 on free throws in the playoffs so like I said _ that's irrelevant.
The biggest issue with Rondo is that ACL injury, some people come back like Adrian Peterson and others come back like Derrick Rose and Rondo has looked way more Rose than Peterson.
Do you know the difference between a "star" and a "role player"? Was Sam Cassell a star or a role player when he was with us? The reasons many Rocket fans don't want Rondo are b/c he's a horrible shooter (3pt/ft), he recently tore his ACL and hasn't proven himself fully recovered, he's getting paid $13mm, his skills overlap with Harden's, and we already have Beverley. Sure they can. That's how the Celtics lost in the 2012 playoffs. Go watch the games. It's irrelevant that a ball-dominating pg shoots 67% from the ft line?
Danny is going to wait out Love to see if he can scoop in. And if he misses out on Love, he's going to ask for the sky for Rondo. Maybe around the deadline the price will be reasonable...especially if he's not looking so good.
Even if we offered the max to Bledsoe, Phoenix would match. So there's no good reason to waste our time pursuing him.
Pelies pick plus one other pick plus expirings for Rondo at the deadline. Rondo Harden Parsons Dwight Bosh
Who said anything about being a star...??? Rondo is a very good point guard and that's all that matters and Pierce, KG, and Allen wouldn't have had the success in the playoffs without him. It sure is. Especially when the Celtics won a championship with him. And he shoots 2-3 from the line in the playoffs which is very good. You calculator boys just look at the 67% and don't factor in how many free throws he actually takes. Jason Kidd was another point guard that didn't take a lot of free throws. And Gary Payton as well and he shot 72% from the line for his career. So yea _ irrelevant
I think that either Bledsoe or Rondo would be good fits on this team. I would rather have Rondo though because he has a championship pedigree and I just think that he has shown a lot of improvement since he has entered the league. He is the same age as Dwight Howard and just thinking about the alley oops from Rondo to Howard makes me shutter.
What expirings would we have to trade for Rondo after we cleared them to sign Bosh? Would love to see your math on that...
My understanding is he's a moody but competitive guy and Ainge has been trying to ship him out of town any chance he gets and Rondo is just fed up with being disrespected by management while playing on a team who is trying to tank. I don't think his play last year was an accurate reflection of how good he is...but the moody thing would be reason for me to wonder if he wouldn't mesh with the guys on this roster. On one hand, maybe he can provide that intensity and focus that we lack from Howard & Harden...on the other hand he could alienate and divide the team.
Without him? No. They'd be playing 4 on 5. Obviously they'd lose. But there were probably at least 25 pgs with whom you could've replaced Rondo and the Celtics still would've won a title. Pathetic argument. The role he played on the championship Celtics team is much different than the role he'd play here. Apples and Oranges. Do you honestly think that just b/c he averages 2 ft's per game, he won't shoot more? Do you know what the word "average" means? You can easily check his game logs and find plenty of games where he shot a lot of FT's. Gary Payton's 73% was bad, but its still significantly better than Rondo's 62%. And Jason Kidd shot in the low 80's during his prime. You can't win this argument. Rondo's poor free throw shooting is indefensible.
