Not to steal your thunder, but if we are posting videos of bands playing in Houston, here's Lou Reed singing "Heroin" in Houston at the Music Hall downtown... and about 1:50 in he actually ties off and really shoots heroin on stage. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/AruOtFkUU-w" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I was there that night Great show. IIRC Ric O after the first song said "Hey" and before the encore said "Hey, Thank You". And that was it for front man banter.
I was at that concert in the Music Hall in November, 1974. In person, the sound was great. I wish the quality was better here, but such is life. Lou was a trip, to put it mildly. I'm pretty sure that was a stunt and that he didn't actually shoot up. Not that he didn't enjoy H for a good stretch of his life, but he wasn't crazy enough to do the real thing on stage. Not ordinarily, anyway.
I've always loved The Cars. I used to own the VHS of that concert. They released a new album back in 2011 - The first single was pretty darn good. I've heard that Ric Ocasek did a good job taking over lead vocals on Ben Orrs songs during their live shows after Orrs death. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/aA4g8a6S2Bw?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Here's another great song from that 2011 album. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/XMVfa5oAdQE?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
And here is Selena in her last concert in the Astrodome in Houston TX ...... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/KoLkuXxlMRs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I was at the Cars show. And I love The Cars. But Rick Ocasek isn't exactly the most charismatic front man ever.
One of the few times we disagree. I'm a fan, but ric is a bit of a dork and the two don't belong in the same sentence.
Who says you can't be a dork and cool at the same time? He married a 19-year old supermodel when he was 35. If that ain't the epitome of cool....
2 separate kinds of cool; the Rick O kind was the birth of the "Weezer" type cool. F'in nerds that want to be cool. But the Miles cool well, that Mother-F'er was there at the Birth of the Cool!!
Guess who produced Weezer's first (and best) album? Maybe the Miles comparison was a bad one. But Ric is definitely cool.
The Cars aren't bad but that seemed like a really low energy concert. As if they didn't want to be there.
