And people here thought Boris Diaw's contract was bad @ $22M/3 years with the 3rd year only partially guaranteed.

Like Mathloom above me explained it perfectly, I think salaries cannot be taken out of context. I admit some can be just plain bad no matter how you look at it (Amare, Bargnani for example), but most of them have a sound reasoning from GMs behind them.

Oh for sure I agree, but at least there was a direction in the trade. This signing Makes the Afflalo trade even wore. The oldest guy on their roster was going to be 25, they made space in their back court for Oladipo and Payton by getting rid of Afflalo and Nelson. Now they signed Frye doesn't make sense because they drafted A.Gordon with the 4th, their PF of the future. Then signed B.Gordon and W.Green, both SG's, when they were trying to clear space for Oladipo... what in the **** they are doing is beyond me.

    Thats not a bad contract.

You slightly over pay for Boris Diaw if it equals one more championship. Not to mention he's a good stop gap for the years after Duncan retires.

If they had 8 mill for this fool, i feel like a wiser decision would have been to try to sign Hayward or Parsons. It's not like the SF spot is truly locked up with Mo Harkless

Phoenix sucks without Frye, all their spacing is built upon him

He's a stretch 4. He can probably still be effective in a few years.

I don't think 8 mm is really that far off his valuation. And I used to think he was horrible, but then he found the corner 3.

Can't have Parsons for 8. Hawes turned down more money to play for the Clippers.

Again, it seems people are thinking that a rebuilding Orlando Magic could get an excellent vet to play for them at market value. This is, of course, far from reality and the reality is that they had to pay Frye (or any good vet) above market value and hope that by having a suitable role and excellent minutes he will be considered a good trade asset next summer hence netting them a first rounder next summer in exchange for Frye taking up cap space which they were going to have to pay for whether they signed someone or not.

I've always liked Channing Frye - but that would be too much per year for him even if it wasn't guaranteed until he's 35. I would have expected something more like 3 years/$20 million.

This is weird to me. I see many of you describing Frye as a scrub. I don't view him that way. I think he has a valuable skill set and could be an important role player on a championship contending team. As such, I would understand a contender over-paying for his services if they thought he filled a specific need for them and that he was the type of role player they needed to advance.

But Orlando? Frye is what? 31 years old. By the time Orlando has a chance of being any good, Frye will be retired.

The only way this signing makes any sense to me at all is if the Magic feel somebody would be willing to give up a draft pick or two for him at the deadline (even if it is second rounders). If that is the case, it would be brilliant. Otherwise, I'll be left scratching my head.
