Maybe but I'd be pretty depressed with a team where Lin is your 1st option.

A pissed off Kevin Martin that didn't want to play for the team after being shopped around for Gasol until the trade was vetoed.
He would have been traded even if we didn't get harden.

It would be interesting to find out the $$$ that follows Lin around
ie arena sponsorship, billboards, TV licensing (eg am guessing that in Asia,
Rockets games are in higher demand than say the Spurs) etc...
$$$ that goes to the club and not the NBA.

Cos that might reduce the pain of paying the $15M.
In fact, I wouldnt be surprised if the above pays > $15M which would
    make Lin self funded :)

I think it would be close to impossible to trade him if his
cap hit was $15M. Good thing it's only $8M.

unfortunately that's unlikely. IIRC, Morey said a few years back that Rox get about 3-4 M extra income from Yao during the Peak years (Yao brings in much more money overall, but the majority of those are shared amongst the teams). Lin likely brings significantly less than Yao does.

Something tells me that income from China is still going to linger here because of Yao. We were his only team. I imagine there is some loyalty to the Rockets there that has nothing to do with Jeremy Lin. I know Kobe was a big deal there not too long ago.

However, if you are talking about the Asian American population and whether that effects the numbers after a trade... hells yes! Les would definitely lose out on that very profitable part of the income. Jeremy for the money or trade up if you want to win. I think Les wants to win.

You would be lucky to make a 9th seed with Lin as your primary option on offense especially in a Western Conference.

You think Parsons would have his shoe deal without Lin? What about that Christmas Day game? East West Bank. Just to name three off the top of my head.

Morey has come out and said something along the lines of " we are China's favorite team."

Also, when i went to the Philippines this April, the HOU-POR playoff series was the only one being broadcast over the air on regular Philippine TV. And I promise you that it had less to with Lin than you think.

My goodness, I do feel for you. You honestly believe that because he played well for a few weeks for the Knicks, that translates to him leading a western conference team into the playoffs as the #1 option. Bless your heart.

    Funny that.

I would have thought the Heat would have bigger appeal there
given that Spoelstra is 1/2 Filipino.

Would be ecstatic if we dumped Lin, just think it's gonna be a challenge. Morey will likely have to give up more than he wants ( a la extra pick ).

Players are bigger draws than coaches.

I was actually pretty curious about this. I asked around and it seems like everyone is happy for Spoelstra and generally like the Heat. However, it seems like people's choice of favorite teams run the gamut. Besides Heat/DWade fans, I met a bunch of Lakers/Kobe fans, Celtics, OKC, Bulls and a few Rockets fans.

My buddy visited his family in Taiwan during game 1 before meeting me up in Cebu City. Its safe to say that Lin is God there.

Are you so sure he cannot reproduce that over a larger sample? Did anyone think Dragic almost dragged the Suns into the playoffs as their number 1 option? Anything is possible.

    1. The east is a minor league compared to the west.

    2. 10 game sample. Kevin Martin had hot streaks too where he averages 30+ points on the rockets. Still always ended in lottery.
