Hopefully we can see some of this from Bosh in a Rockets uniform:

Bosh/McBob/Lebron makes more sense than McBob/Melo/Lebron (Lineup doesn't really make much sense at all to me).

I DO NOT see them using their full mid-level on a non-starter backup to Lebron/Melo either.

However, they could have just agreed "Mid-Level-like" money (using cap space) assuming Bosh is moving on and resign Lebron to the full max (21 ish), Wade to a 4 year deal (15 per), McBob (Bosh replacement at 5.75 mil), Cole (2 mil), Nappier (1 mil), Birdman (1.44 mil).

This is the selling point to Lebron. We now have a Bosh replacement and have 15 to 17 million in cap space to go get other players. Maybe you get Gasol at 10 mil a year + Steve Blake at 5 a year + another true mid-level signing.

This could all be to show Lebron that they can replace Bosh as a spacing PF, and go out and get all these other guys with that cap space.

Who knows though... Its just a guessing game right now what this means. The McBob Mid-Level raises more questions than answers them right now in this crazy free agency year.

too bad everything depends on what Lebron does...meaning

we still have to wait for Lebron to meet with Riley

The only way they are using the MLE this season is if Bosh stays OR they are using a complicated 3 team sign and trade situation where Bosh is going somewhere and Melo is coming to Miami.

If they sign and trade Bosh to Houston but take no salary back: Under the cap, lose MLe

If they let Bosh leave and sign Melo with cap room: Under the cap, use cap on Melo, no MLE

If they let Bosh leave (renounce) and then S&T FOR Melo: Under the cap, use cap space to absorb Melo, no MLE

The only way they are using the MLE is if they are keeping their big 3 intact. Any other scenario gives them cap room and nullifies the MLE.

Edit: But keep in mind, just because they are saying they are using the MLE on McRoberts doesn't mean they ultimately will. If Lebron leaves and Bosh leaves they can still sign McRoberts for the same salary using cap room. That it is being called MLE is a function of the Heat belief they will be adding him to the Big 3.

they could still use their cap to sign others who are not named Chris Bosh.

With Miami now all in for Bosh, it'd be quite lulzy if he came to Houston.

    James takes off for Cleveland.

    Wade goes to Chicago.

Melo ends up in LA or NY (who cares at this point).

Miami fields the worst team in the history of the league.

Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra execute a murder-suicide pact.

Dude, McRoberts signing MLE being announced is a damn clear sign that the big 3 are staying together and Anthony is heading back to NYC most likely. I'm not being to quick to give up on anything?

Someone fill me in on this:

So the Heat say they are "operating as a capped team". Lets assume:

    LeBron gets $22 million
    Bosh gets $15 million
    Wade gets $12 million

(at least based on reports that is)

    That's $47 million for 3 players

Norris Cole and Shabazz Napier will count for about another $3 million

    That's $50 million for 5 players

If they do Haslem a solid and sign him for $2 million per season for 3 seasons...
    That's $52 million for 6 players

Which means they still have roughly $11 million before they actually have the MLE

So are they really thinking that $11 million can be spent on good enough players to make the Heat any better?

    The still have:

    -No point guard
    -No center
    -No back up center
    -No back up shooting guard
-No small forwards or 3/D guys

    ....am I missing something here?

I was thinking much the same thing when I heard about McRoberts. Hopefully, a capologist like Bima or aelliot could present the available options regarding Bosh to Houston, assuming McRoberts is getting the MLE from Miami.

This is a possibility except there's no reason to believe that the Heat want to lose Bosh or that Bosh will leave if he has a choice and Lebron is staying.

The most plausible scenario is Riley is banking on McRoberts at the MLE and some other low level adds plus Napier being enough to convince Lebron to stay which in turn holds Bosh in place.

So they couldn't have agreed to sign McBob using the MLE if they had intended to first sign Melo?
