The thought of losing Daniels or Jones is the unsettling thing I speak of. I'd like to at least keep Jones/ Daniels on top of Parsons, Beverly, Harden, Howard and Bosh. I really hope it ends up being a 4 team trade w/ Philly, NOP and Miami to a) preserve the MLE b) retain our young guys.
No, if you give him the max in cap space no MLE. Only keep MLE if we do a sign and trade for the max player. But in that case you are potentially so close to being hard capped that it wouldn't matter anyway depending on what happens with Chandler. I can't see Morey wanting to be hard capped. He values flexibility way too much.
Plus, Miami had to wipe their roster clean and start filling the roster after they signed the 3. We'd be starting off with our entire top 5 (or 5 of top 6) plus adding Bosh. Still have to add another guy for the bench, in addition to Jones, Johnson, and hopefully Daniels. We can make this work for certain, should it come to pass.
Miami had Lebron, the best player in the NBA. Also Wade who was still WADE as in legit superstar Wade.
Highly unlikely they turn down what the Rockets are offering. They are going to make out like bandits from this deal (probably at least 1 first rounder, and a quality Euro-stash (Llull, Pap's, Gentile, or even Capri), still suck, but will probably sell more tickets next year having Lin on their roster & HEAVILY featured in marketing, media, & role. Its a HUGE win for Philly for next year. I dont think any other team in the league can make better use of their cap space than the Rockets can in sending over Lin.
The only question is whether our big 3 is actually good enough to be a title team like the Miami Big 3 was. I'd say our Sort of Super Five would be contenders to get through the West, but certainly not a hands down favorite.
If he was willing to take less, he would probably just stay in Miami and take less. If you want to pry him away, you gotta pay him extra to move.
Eh a couple future 2nds couldn't hurt to thank them for helping us out in retaining our MLE + young guys. It also would create a trade exception for Miami which could be helpful to them.
Big question is what Chandler's salary is going to be. Every million is going to count if they are really going to add a 3rd wheel. The difference between Chandler at a dumb max offer sheet that starts at 14.5 and one that starts at say 10.5 is enormous.
If the Rockets get Bosh and resign Parsons, you assume they are contenders for the foreseeable future....picks wouldn't matter as much anymore
Which starting lineup would be better? Keep in mind guys like Bev, harden, and parsons will continue get better. Put it this way, you would have the best frontcourt in the NBA to go along with the best shooting guard in the league. If that isn't the favorite to win it all i'm not sure what is........
Lebron is a major difference. Harden may be the best SG in the league but that's a position ranking, not a true ranking. Lebron is way better than Harden. Wade was better at the time. They also lost two out of the 4 times they got to the finals because the teams coming out of the West are brutal. We have to beat those teams just to get to the finals.
Who else do we have to get rid of to shed the capspace? What happens if Parsons accepts an offer from another team before we're able to sign a max guy?
