Marcus Smart + Avery Bradley seem to fill in Rondo's void. TJones is apparently very attractive to opposing GMs. If this comes to fruition give some credit to KingDrew.
he is a POINT GUARD that runs a offense. never minded his tough defense, high assist/turnover ratio, and hustle rebounding. Rondo will force the rockets to run a REAL offense and improve the defense. but like you said he is a bad fit for a ISO team
So Boston is just going to give Rondo away...??? You're talking about getting a star player for TJ, Lin, and a draft pick...
A very attractive draft pick at that. We got Harden for a lot less than that and he is a much better player than Rondo without a history of injuries.
100% agree, taking the ball out of hardens hands isn't the worst idea in the world. He is more than capable of playing off the ball if he concentrates on it, but on this team he is allowed to due to the lack of another star in the backcourt. If you bring any star on this team it somewhat causes harden to play more off the ball than he has been doing previously.
Guys the ESPN trade machine isn't yet set for the 2014/15 season. The salary cap is set for the 2013/14 season, and there are many of CBA rules the trade machine does not consider (roster sizes, etc.) Don't use the ESPN trade machine for anything more than a glorified calculator. It wont be ready to use until weeks later at the earliest (assuming they have someone updating it).
No we did not. The pick in Harden's deal was a guaranteed lotto pick, this one isn't (though it might become one). And KMart is better than both Lin and TJ combined by a mile.
Nah, Kevin Martin on an expiring deal is not a better piece than a 23 year old, promising power froward with nothing but upside. - Signed Daryl Morey. The beautiful thing about all of these scenarios is that they have to happen before Thursday or we risk losing it all by having to match Parsons before the third max is in line.
We got Harden because we got LUCKY. And Harden was a bench player. And that New Orleans pick isn't as attractive as you think. I seriously doubt it will be in the top 10. We'd have to give up Parsons to get Rondo.
If you guys didn't watch any Celtic games last year, I can tell you, Rondo is not the same defender. He looked fine on offense, but he was consistently getting blown by time and time again. I guess it could take some time to get back to normal, but I'm not sure I'd be willing to take that risk....it was BAD.
Lucky in what way? Morey collected enough assets over years to make that trade happen. Being prepared for an opportunity and luck are completely different things. I hate people.
We don't need a point guard to implement a new offense. Our offense is fine. Our system isn't changing.
100% disagree. First off, Harden hasn't proven he's a great playoff performer enough to have the ball in his hands that much. If anything, we need a guard that'll take the ball AWAY from Harden when he's chokin it up. Secondly, Rondo's playmaking ability exceeds his lack of shooting. The quality of shots we'll get with Rondo will DRASTICALLY improve, especially for guys like Jones & Dwight. When Rondo penetrates the lane, the bigs have to help which will lead to more alley's for our bigs. So instead of jack up 3's you get a guard that'll force the defense to adjust. It's a different look, but more efficient than the moreyball offense that preaches against midrange shots. Besides in elimination games, there is NO OTHER player I want besides Rondo. That guy simply does not like losing. There is no stat for that, but it's the biggest difference between winning and losing.
I did watch and you're right. He did get blown by numerous times. However.... you can't take that as evidence that he's declined defensively. That was a lottery team. They didn't want to win games. There's no way Rondo was going to be putting in championship effort on the defensive end. He could have declined defensively, or he could still be recovering from his knee injury, or he could have been just blowing off the defensive end. No way to draw a conclusion from his play last season.
Why would the Rockets want a guy who has only run mediocre offenses as a core player to take over their top 5 offense?
First, yes the trade machine is broken, it is literally saying every trade is successful, there is not salary caps for the teams if you look. Second, no way the Celtics are down for that IMO. Rondo is still a 28 year old all star PG, no need to throw him out the window for Jones and a future first when they can get some real talent in return for him. Parsons, Jones and or Beverley + picks for Rondo would probably work. We'd be giving up a a lot but we'd still be getting Rondo for 75 cents on the dollar. Rondo Harden Bosh Howard If we could possibly get Bosh in a S&T, we would be made. We could send Lin and Capela to a third team like the 76'rs or bucks, and then send multiple future picks, including the NOP pick to the Heat. Then we can sign a MLE small forward like Ariza, Tucker or M.Williams .
I wonder if all these "Rockets interested in" are actual leks, or a smear campaign by say, Mark Cuban. Not that I wouldn't like Rondo, but this is making us look desperate.
