Maybe the Player's Union talked some sense into the guys about taking a paycut. Because really, when you think about it, shouldn't it be the GM and owner who should be concerned about building the team to compete and not the players. It seems like if the players take a paycut, they're looked at as good loyal guys but if they take the max, they're selfish greedy players who are in it for the money. It's a lose-lose for the players. The Rockets aren't asking anyone to take a pay cut, and they could still build a roster with 3 all-stars and solid role players.

I find it pretty hilarious that just last summer, a lot of us speculated a possible trade of Lin and Asik for Bosh. I remember getting some heat for suggesting it when Asik first demanded a trade after we signed Howard, which I understood. Now, if we sign Bosh, it would basically be that trade. We lose Lin and Asik and get back Bosh. But it will be more like Asik + Lin + whatever it takes to unload Lin for Bosh + Pelican pick. That deal is so much better than Lin and Asik for Bosh! In Morey I Trust!
We would only have the MLE if we S&T for Bosh. So in that case, you'd hope for something like Lin/Jones/picks for Bosh. Then you can do Parsons/Pelicans pick/Eurostash (Capela? Llull?) for Rondo and end up getting Rondo/Bev/Canaan Beard/Daniels/Johnson MLE/Garcia or another vet min./Covington Bosh/D-Mo Howard/BAE
I find it hilarious that we haven't even spoken directly to Bosh yet and people are making a big deal out of it. Anyways, it's such a long shot we could get Bosh, because according to all accounts Bosh would only be willing to leave if Lebron leaves?
I think I may be alone in this, but I think offering Bosh the max isn't a great idea. While its true that he would be a great fit for this team. I just don't think he's worth the max for what he gives. This has been a guy that has had zero point games in the finals. He's also getting up there in age. Also, he would be coming to play with Howard and Harden. That in itself should sweeten the deal. He would be coming to a situation with a good chance of contending. I dunno, maxing out Bosh would kill our ability to improve the rest of our roster. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Bosh on this team, just not for the max. Anyways, I would love to be proven wrong.
He knows what we offer. He saw our last presentation. His agent is really all we need now. We are really the only other option for him besides Miami where he could instantly compete.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Media seem to be using Melo's 4-yr max ($96M) and applying it to Bosh. But Melo made more than Bosh last year, raising his max salary.</p>— David Weiner (@BimaThug) <a href="https://twitter.com/BimaThug/statuses/486004756658143232">July 7, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
That sad moment when you realize we are going to have to wait even longer for a decision by any of the big FAs. Melo isn't going to announce a decision if he can potentially team up with Lebron in Miami, Bosh isn't going to make a decision until Lebron makes a decision, and Lebron is meeting with Riley for the next couple of days to see where they stand (cough let Bosh walk and get Melo cough). This might be the biggest game of chicken in the history of mankind! Bosh is the first domino if Morey can convince him to leave straight up. Do work Morey!
You definitely aren't the only one concerned about the money. I think its an important point to be made, but I have to ask what is a fair salary to you? Once we hit the luxury tax, the only person that should be concerned about Bosh's salary is Les Alexander.
Miami (Pat Riley) is stuck in hold mode on FAs until Wade and Bosh tells him how much they want. LeBron is waiting to see what players Pat brings in before he decides to stay or not. So it's all messed up for them right now. I like that Morey is putting something on Bosh's mind right now. Things should start happening tomorrow once Melo shares his decision. I think Morey has other options ready to go once Melo tells everybody what he is doing. Moves we never thought of.
So I added up all the salaries of Howard Harden Parsons (caphold) Jones Beverley Canaan and we can damn near offer Bosh 4 years 84 million. I can see it now, then we'd re-sign Brooks, Daniels, Garcia and Covington all to veteran minimum deals. Beverley/Brooks/Canaan Harden/Daniels/Johnson Parsons/Garcia(FA) Bosh/Jones/Covington Howard/(FA) Then we'd sign one SF and C for the veteran minimum. Do it Morey, Do it.
