The real Carmelo looks to be somebody who values celebrity status.

I see where this is all stemming from..."both players as reported have asked how they could play together in LA in BOTH meetings..."

First of all, I'm sure they both asked that question in ALL of their meetings. But not every city is LA where they just NEED the attention or the appearance they have a shot all of the time, no matter what the situation or who the star.

Second of all, there are two answers to this question. "Well Lebron, well Melo, you see, you would both need to take pay cuts to have the privilege of coming to join forces with the mid 30s, 24 million dollar Kobe. As long as you are willing to do that, we can move mountains (trading Nash) to get both of you here so that you can both continue to play 40 mins a game (remember Lebron wants Tim Duncan treatment) IN the west (let's not forget that argument either)."

Second answer..."well we could trade Kobe, but wait we just told you we take care of our stars (Shaq), didn't we? Well, let's just talk about answer number one."

Not being a homer...but not accepting illogical thinking either. Return to NY I think is most likely. Houston next, Chicago after that, then Lebron and Melo in Miami.

Yep if he signs with the Knicks it's about money with a slight intrigue of 2015 rebuild.

If he signs with the Bulls, he wants an easier way to a ring which I don't think will happen for him there.

If he signs with he Rockets then he does want to win.

If he signs Lakers...well then I will laugh at the stupidity of taking less money to play for the hasbeens and the clueless owner.

If Melo and Lebron really want to play together on max contracts, the easiest place to make that happen is in Miami.

Really can't see why Melo would want to play in LA except for one reason and that's because of his wife. He can make more guaranteed money playing with other teams (see NYK), have a legit chance to win it all if he goes to another city (say in Chicago or Houston), and most importantly he can keep his family stabilized if he just goes back to New York. I'm not buying the whole ESPN spin LA angle. LA only got an interview with Anthony because of Kobe anyway. The money is less in LA after you factor in state tax and they literally have no roster with no coach. How is that situation attractive to a top free agent who is "trying to win it all"? And by the way this is not a great free agent year outside of the top guys. So telling Melo he can pick his top free agents to play with this year is not a compelling offer.

I think the Melo and LeBron really wanting to play together angle is a PR spin too. I think in the right situation it would be considered but I don't think the Lakers are the right situation. Kobe makes 23.5 million next year. LeBron I know wants the max and Carmelo wants near max. After those 3 contracts how do you sign additional players even in this free agent class? Every NBA players wants to win a ring but they all want to get paid and take care of their families first. And if you are LeBron why not just go back to Miami for a year? Miami is guaranteed to be a top 2 contending team in the weak East if the big 3 come back, and Pat Riley is there. What certainty do you have to be in contention in LA in the strong West with Melo, Kobe and LeBron with a weak roster?

To me there are just too many question marks to be presented for LA to be a serious suitor for Melo and LeBron. It's understandable if Houston is out of the running for Carmelo, I can by a legit argument for that. I'm just really having a hard time finding reasons for Melo and/or LeBron to go to the Lakers.

have they considered that trading away all their draft picks and having no assets or players whatsoever you can package with said bad contract might be the issue?

If LaLa is making the decision for him then we don't need him here. We have enough weak minded players as it is. We need somebody that's gonna show up every night in a good way and hold guys accountable as well as himself. Don't see too many players like that in the today's nba. Too many of these dudes are more worried about how they look fashion wise then their actual game on the court.

Hopefully what king drew was hinting at is that these reports are all just that...reports, fake, not what's really happening, and that today we will find out the opposite. Being anything but the two hottest topics (NY/LA).

i hate los angeles just as much as anyone here. and at one point, i wouldn't have even pretended to be sad if kobe had been stabbed at a club 100 times by some rapper.
But you got to respect's l.a's loyalty to their kobe. To pay him and sacrifice the future of their organization for a player that will not be the same anymore, that's pretty stupid or pretty awesome, depending from where you're standing. We, houston, traded away the god who brought us glory.

Personally I still see Melo staying in New York before it's all said and done. Playing in LA would be nice especially with a soon to be 36 year old Kobe who's coming back from very serious injuries. I wouldn't count out Phil Jackson either.

Yeah but they gave him that contract thinking that he'd be ok. Kobe is determined but that 2nd injury along with age is an indicator that he is damaged goods now. And even though he's a money maker for them, I'd be shocked if they had this to do over again that they'd give him that contract. Just a impatient, boob move by the new owner and the LA media playing it off a loyalty.

Carmelo Anthony has narrowed his choice down to three teams. Lakers, Knicks and Bulls. (ICYMI)
