Also, I thought Randle would have a pretty substantial cap-hold (the moment he was drafted) to prevent teams from the very situation being described.

I believe they are both second rounders - you don't have to tender them a contract unlike 1st rounders.

Even with Randle not signed, his rookie scale $ (roughly $2.5M) counts against the cap. What the Lakers potentially save on by not signing him is the extra 20% salary ($500k in this case) worth of cap room that teams are allowed to and typically agree to give to rookies.

So we are still talking about $32M in cap room for Melo and Lebron to split.

Hell, even if LA trades away Randle and Sacre for no salary in return, we are still talking about $34.5M in cap room to be split between the two stars-- still requiring each to take a significant discount from his "max."

Hey cyberx, someone mentioned Love. I'm also curious of the status of those trade discussions. Or is that in the backburner?

Star players in the NBA shouldn't be leery about playing alongside Kobe the player, as much as they should be leery about playing alongside Kobe the contract.

If you are a max player with Kobe already on board, you are signing up for the notion that its basically you and Kobe with no ability to add significant help without you taking a major pay cut. Than you have to look at the payroll, and say... I'm the face of the franchise, and the future, but the guy who is supposed to be handing over the torch is making 2x what I'm making????

    Also.... whose my F-Ing coach???

LOL.... This can't be anything more than leverage. The second Dallas started signing guys I knew Melo's camp would need to add in another contender with true max cap space (thought it would be Phoenix) because they NEED leverage to force NYN to give him a max offer sheet.

Its always been about going back to the Knicks. He just needed to put heat on them to make the roster better, create leverage to get paid, and frankly.... you can't blame him for wanting to get courted & get treated to some Lobster Skewers or whatever the heck they serve at Americas.

You try to start more drama than a Reality TV housewife I swear. If you haven't gotten the gist of how NBA players feel about Harden and Howard from Cyberx than you just haven't been paying attention or are just looking for drama that isn't really there.

Morey isn't going to trade away Harden & Howard just because you don't like their personalities. They can't all be Patrick Patterson's. If you are waiting for that to happen to root for the Rockets again than just forget about it.... its not gonna happen. Go root for the character driven Raptors this year.

4 years 96 mill dollars is the only offer he can get from any team. There is no "upping the offer"

The Bulls and Rockets are likely offering less than max dollars.

Part of the Lakers pitch was that they take
Care of their star players always.

Like Kobe's contract while injured and how Magics didn't get voided even
    After his HIV announcement.

    All has gone quiet.

I do know that if the Heat don't get their players back they may do a full rebuild and Riley may leave with Mickey Arisons son taking over.

Oooooohhh, really? That's a big statement Cyberx! I'm actually interested in how this turns out. That would definitely put the Lakers back on the map again.
