Rockets have already used all the allocated cash they can include in a trade this year, the asik trade and purchasing the 2nd round pick.

I thought the pick purchase was with last years money.

What an idiot. SMH Do people even watch basketball games before posting on here? Carter-Williams's stats unload feces all over Lin's stats.

Yes. From what we currently know, the only money dedicated to the new season is the $1.5(?) mil we need to give NO in the Asik deal. We had some unspent money last year that we used to buy the pick.

Not according to Zach Lowe on his podcast with bill Simmons. He specifically talked about being the rockets attempting to use money allocated for last year to purchase the pick, but was denied by the league.

That was last year's money. after the draft we get another $3M until after next draft.

I think I'll trust Zach Lowe on the matter.

Why would the league deny it? Morey basically did the same thing the year before-- using the cash leftover from the prior season to buy Furkan Aldemir's draft pick.

Good question, unfortunately they he didn't go into specifics or didn't know why they were unable to. Lowe did talk about this situation specifically for a good couple minutes with Simmons on their last podcast.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of me and what I said on the podcast with Clutch?

If so, that's what I thought MAY have happened. Also, that is consistent with what meh said. The Rockets ended up just using (most of) that 2013-14 cash to purchase the draft rights to Gentile.

If not, my apologies for thinking you'd confuse me with Zach Lowe.

    He's wrong. We're right.

The Rox spent about $1.5 million last July to get Philadelphia to take Royce White. That left 1.5 million. That's what was spent on the draft this year.

So now we have another 3 million. Half will go to New Orleans. We still have the other 1.5 million. I'm quite sure the team that takes Lin will be glad to take that money too.

    we have a winner!

i was wrong about having all $3M to spend. we have $1.5 remaining of 2014-2015 money to give whichever lucky team wins the lin sweepstakes.

Lol thats definitely a possibility, did you use the word shenanigans?

As for confusing you with Lowe, I almost made a joke about you and clutch podcast sounding a lot like Simmons/Lowe and that I'd leave it to you guys to fight over who gets to Lowe.

If Houston couldn't given NOP the $1.5M from 2013-14 to complete the Asik trade because the deal could not be completed before June 30, I wonder if the draft pick of Gentile was the legal way to get around it.

So, instead of giving NOP cash, Houston uses the cash to buy Gentile, then sends Gentile to NOP as a part of the yet to be completed trade. I don't see anything about this that violated any rules.

NOP can either keep Gentile or likely get something like $1.5M by trading him.

It's a convenient argument used to undermine Lin. How many times have we heard how Lin's only here for marketing purposes? How many times have some CFers bemoaned Les's greed of the Asian money? Seems like plain and simple willful ignorance to me.

That said, some CFers mentioned in the past that the revenue from advertising at TC goes to Rox. So if Lin is the reason some sponsors started a business relationship with Rox, then Lin really does bring in some additional money, but probably not to the extent some claim.

Let's be real. MCW isn't that good. He put up 17-6-6 on a terrible team. A team that lost.. 27 games in a row I think? and it's not like he does it on good efficiency either. He's an awful shooter. Lin can shoot better than MCW. Jeremy can drive in better and finish better. Lin is a much better scorer than MCW. MCW is better defensively since he's long, but I'm not entirely sure if he can run an offense better than Jeremy. MCW turns the ball over more than Jeremy, and we all know how bad Lin is at keeping the ball.

MCW might be the worst rookie of the year ever. Does he show promise? Yeah, sure. I think his best case scenario would be a 07-2008 Rajon Rondo. What is more likely is a better 13-14 Shaun Livingston though. Would I trade Jeremy Lin straight up for him? Nah. I don't like Jeremy Lin, but I'll take my chances with him instead of MCW. MCW isn't that good. He didn't show promise like someone like Tyreke Evans did his rookie year or Damien Lillard did his rookie year. He just put up inflated stats on a ****ty team. That's it.

If MCW had the same talent around him that Lin has currently, he would be a beast hands down. People always using bad teams as an excuse when judging rookie player stats, and that's pretty unfair considering Thad Young is the only other decent player on the team. Lin is on a stacked team in comparison, and yet can't even beat Patrick Beverely out of a starting gig, and MCW is definitely a better player than Patrick lmao.

Agreed. Bill Simmons was talking about how he turns the ball over way too much and his handles and passing are shaky. He's also very inefficient. But still, he was just a Rookie and showed some promise. I wouldn't play Lin over him. But they mind end up starting together cause both are combo type guards
