A few extra million per year over the life of the contract would be horrible? Especially when were going to be completely capped out anyways?
This is one situation where I HOPE a player uses us to drive their price up. Cmon Heat, sign him for the max!!!! USE US BOSH. PLEASE USE US!!!!!!!!!
The problem with us signing Bosh is that it likely means LeBron will leave Miami. If LeBron leaves Miami, we should be all over that.
I could be wrong but when you factor in Parsons' contract I think the Rockets' ability to extend another max going forward is going to be quite restricted? Given the magnitude of what Houston gets with Bosh compared to what they could get come next off-season, why not?
If he wants to go to Cleveland, all the power to him. I don't think many people would want to go to that organization. They are a joke. Gilbert's a clown and they continue to waste pick after pick.
From all reports, both from insiders on this board and nationally, is that LeBron doesn't really want Houston. And that the Rockets believe they have no shot at LeBron. Maybe he doesn't like Dwight. Maybe he doesn't like Houston the city. Maybe he hates McHale. Who knows? But it's clear he's very apathetic about us. We should just go after the guy who's willing to commit. Now, in Melo's case, even if it was a longshot, it's no loss on our part. But at this point we're reaching the July 10th deadline when teams can start to actually offer Parsons a contract. So things have to be done before then.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Source close to Bosh says he still wants to be in Miami. "No change," source says. What that means, well, stay tuned. I guess.</p>— Tim Reynolds (@ByTimReynolds) <a href="https://twitter.com/ByTimReynolds/statuses/485581123162873858">July 6, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
It's either Bosh or Kevin Love or this team won't go far. This team is longing for a legit PF for a long time from Chuck Hayes, Landry to Scola to experimenting with small PFs that can shoot such as Garcia, Casspi lol, Jones, Smith, Dmo...none seem to pan out.
That's exactly what they should do when/if Bosh visits. Bosh has actually held the trophy, so he'll just nod at it with some recognition.
How much would you be willing to pay Bosh at this point? 4 years...... I would go 60 million at this point.
There's the conundrum for Riles/Heat. Wade supposedly is/was the franchise glory guy that got them their first title and was big in games when they needed him when they won their 2 recent chips. He just opted out of a 2-year@42 million deal (which he's not worth anymore as a player) - so Wade wants more than peanuts to stick around/reconfigure the cap roster - while Lebron wants Max/now. That leaves Bosh as the odd guy out that will either have to settle for less, or, if they pay him too much, he'll make the team unable to sign quality role players. He's the expendable guy, politically, among the big 3 to the Heat, even if he's contributing more on the court lately than Wade.
I just don't think it's a good idea to give someone a max when they don't deserve it. Severely limits roster flexibility down the road.
It's funny. Of course no one really knows what's going on inside the walls of Fortress Miami but if you read Wojnarowski's articles you get a sense that Pat Riley is trying to sell high-second tier free agents (now? Deng; before? Lowry, who's off the market) on playing for quite a pay cut. And Deng is saying, basically, why would he play for $4,000,000 when he can play for $10,000,000. And I wouldn't blame him As for Bosh, he hasn't exactly indicated he'll play for peanuts. Well, peanuts compared to what he could make; and why should he? And if he doesn't cave quite a bit on his demands, who can they get? You do get a sense that a bit of the luster has worn off in Miami, and if they stay together, it's because they know in the East they can be at the top of the heap....IF they can add to that roster. Which I'm starting to doubt. Also, Cleveland is offering Jarrett Jack and a 1st to get him off their cap so they can make a run at King James. Don't know if it'll fly, but I could see something like that for our TE (after Asik and Lin are gone). Could offset whatever asset we lose in sending Lin to....Phiadelphia? (Of course, Cleveland could send Jack to Philadelphia with that first and hose us, except Jack's contract goes for a few more years and would screw up future cap space).
Once over the cap who cares what we pay to get the final piece. These are 4 year contracts not 6 year McGrady deal.
Logic has flown out the window this offseason. In order to pry Bosh from a cozy situation in Miami, the Rockets would have to overpay him, which is fine, when you realize the Rockets will be over the cap for the foreseeable future as soon as they match whatever offer Parsons accepts. Then the only way to add another star is through matching salaries in a trade. For the record, Bosh is a great fit next to Dwight, and they would be wise to give him a four year max. It makes the Rockets a lot better.
