Lin's stats are better than Michael Carter Williams, but MCW has better ceiling and was rookie of the year. I think Lin is going to be another backup point guard in Philly.

Yeah, morey is never gonna give away Motie. People act like lin is hard to trade. A 8 million expiring plus a player that will give you 14 and 5 is not a bad thing to trade for.

teams have to spend 90% of the cap. some teams have a lot of cap space but no one wants to sign there. so how do they reach 90% of the cap? they overpay for mediocre talent (that's how bad contracts are born) or they can acquire bad contracts in exchange for draft picks. those are the teams that will take on lin for us.

    sixers
    jazz
    magic
    bucks
    cavs
    hornets
    pistons

these are the teams with cap space that probably won't use it on anyone good. all of them would be happy to take on an $8M cap hit for 1 year if it nets them a first round pick. the tricky part is that lin is still owed $15M. you would have to take out teams which lost money last year, like the hornets.

the jazz were one of the most profitable last year, they are a likely candidate even though they haven't been linked to lin... yet.

Lol at some folks who keep saying they dont hate lin, just his fans. The personal vitrol directed at him in this thread just shows the true colors of most of the "no hate lin, just his fans" group. Couldnt even just come out and just say you dont like the guy because of whatever, nah its the lofs. Please, such hot garbage.

if a teams doesn't meet the minimum team salary the players on the roster get the difference added to their salaries at a certain point in the season.

the problem with lin's contract for these teams is the extra 6.6M the owner is out of pocket when compared to signing or trading for players with regular contracts.

There is nothing extra. For salary floor purposes, what counts is actual $ paid. For example, what Houston pays Scola counts for the salary floor even if it doesn't count against the cap due to the amnesty. A player traded halfway during the season will count toward the floor to the extent that the team pays him for the part of the year he is with the team. As far as I know, the actual $14.8M paid to Lin will count for the floor.

Have you ever met a Cowboys fan? It's really not personal towards Lin.

I can't give you a good answer to that, but I can suggest that a larger font doesn't necessarily equal more attention from the gentle reader.

yes and since that is the case they could either spend the money by paying all of their own guys more at the end of the season, OR they can take on lin and earn a future first rounder out of it. either way they spend the same at the end of the season, so why not?

there is the extra $6.6M. but the rockets can add $3M in cash in the trade. so now it's just an extra $3.6M. and for that, they buy themselves a first round pick.

For the sake of hit rate, why not?
